Extreem pian all weekend led me to the doctors this a.m. He said I have a stone in my common bile duct. I had my gaul bladder removed 2 years ago due to stones. Very upset this has happened again. Dr has given me pain killers and says well do nothing for a few days to see if I pass it naturally. If things get worse Ill have to have scan and then an op to remove it/them.
Has this happened to any of you?
Any tips on encouraging the passing it naturally process?

Sympathies, toot. I have read somewhere that this can happen but no experience of it. I had my gallbladder removed a few years ago. When they did the scan they found that not only were they in the gallbladder but also blocking my common bile duct. I had to have a special procedure where they passed a tube down to my stomach(endoscopy) and threaded a wire up to my common bile duct to retrieve the stones. I was sedated for this. It was an unpleasant experience but not unbearable.
Sorry to hear that your stones have returned.

Me, me, it happenend to me! At least I think it did, it was either that or post cholestectomy syndrome which is like a spasm in the gall bladder area. I too had my gall bladder removed and recently got dreadful pains in the same area. I went to the GP and he said it was either another stone or PCS. Anyway he gave me really strong painkillers and muscle relaxants and I was ok after about 4 days. I was however completely out of it for those 4 days (which was quite nice really )

Sorry but lmao at the thought of a 'Gaul bladder'.

Shouldn't it be 'Gaulish' anyway??

moondog, have you no heart?

I cant spell, I did mean Gallbladder
Carmenere, Doctor has given me painkillers and taken a wait and see attitude ie if I turn yellow and scream alot well say the duct is blocked but if not well say you passed it. He`s left it at that, no follow up. I have made an appointment with my fav doctor at the same practice for next week so I can talk thing through with him. What follow up did you have ?

Jalopy, was the tube thing done at the same time as the Gallblader removal? where you awake but sedated or knocked out sedated?

No, I had the endoscopy a week before the surgery. I think it depends on the surgeons. I was awake but sedated.

Carmenere · 30/01/2006 20:55

Toot I had no follow up because I was ok after a couple of days but it was a 'wait and see' situation too. If it gets worse (you go yellow and are screaming) go to hospital. Good luck

Sorry toot.
I do have a heart actually.

I once had what was that to be a gall bladder attack (on aw/end in Brighton).
It was unbelievable painful-was rolling around on the floor in A&E in pyjamas with dh hissing 'Get up woman!!'

Never had anything like it-hope you're better soon.
