sticking out tummy!

This may seem a little trivial but my 3 year old has quite a sticking out tummy and elsewhere is pretty slim. He eats well - doesn't complain of tummy pains and goes to the loo normally (i.e. once/day). Its probably just the rounded tummy of toddlerhood, but I expected that to have disappeared by now - can any of you mums advise/reassure?

mine all had or have this.

It goes as they stretch out. Nothing to worry about! Apparently it shows that the kidneys are functioning well.... though I could be making that up lol

Someone once told me that small children have almost the same sized livers as adults. The reason for the pot belly look is that the liver takes up a lot of abdominal space which changes as the body grows.

Anyone know if this is correct?

poptot · 29/01/2006 19:40

It is the liver and it is normal my dd had one until she was about 4.5 and she is a skinny malinky, ds is 2 still in 12-18 jeans he's so skinny but still has a little pot belly.

I assumed that it was just that as they got older vanity kicked in and we start to hold ourselves in.

My three year old also has an enormous belly but little everything else.

rydercup · 29/01/2006 21:11

Now that I have stopped worrying, it is so very cute...just started to get a bit paranoid for him when he started pre-school and a little lad came up to him and told him that he had a 'fat tummy' - bless!! Kids...so matter of fact aren't they!!

Babies have adult sized livers, and thats why!

I used to have an enormous one,and now DD 17months has inherited it!

I think it's adorable!

MarsOnLife · 29/01/2006 23:10

I felt for a long time that mine were just like me. Since that third baby I've had a sticky out tummy. Good to know it's just that I have an enormous liver. That'll be my new excuse.

All the alcohol has caused an enormous liver resulting in a sticky out tum.
