Had to have a colposcopy this morning, and the doctor said I have worms, Blush never had them before, I have five dc's so have left a message with the gp to get prescriptions for us all.
Feel rubbish and reading all the guild lines of what I've got to do, sounds a mammoth task. And how am I going to get 5 dc's showed/bathed before school every morning. Mornings already a nightmare.

Right I've stripped all the 6 beds, hoovered mattresses and rooms, have two bin bags of teddies to wash, thrown away tooth brushes.
Have bought flush able wipes, anti bac hand stuff, nail brushes.
I'm shattered and have a laundry pile the size of Everest!

Aw, you poor thing. I've had worms a few times and it's no big deal, they're easily treatable.

Try to wash everything at 60 degrees and keep their nails dead short. Make them wash their hands after loo visits and when coming in from school/nursery. They'll have picked them up from there.

Sad It's OK. You can buy the treatment over the counter. It's important to treat everyone and wash the sheets. You'll all need another dose of the medicine in 2 weeks. There's worms all over the place, usually outside in the dirt. It happens, there's nothing to be embarassed about.

LargeGlassofRed · 02/03/2012 14:43

Thanks Lady and hidden, everyone has had the medicine now and the house has never been so clean.

About to put on second wash here, not sure if worms or not - but an itchy bottom is worth treating as if, I think!

Sympathies, and here's to solidarity over the washing mountain Smile

LargeGlassofRed · 02/03/2012 16:40

I haven't had any symtoms at all, really wouldn't have had a clue if I hadn't had the colposcopy.
Sorry to here you have the washing mountain to, just doing s the teddies at the mo, dd2 very worried their eyes will fall out.

We all had worms last year and one treatment of the stuff ( ovex?) cured it in one go. I wasnt that fastidious about cleaning, just did the same as you and bleached all the door handles and light switches etc. We've not had a recurrence.

How could the Dr tell?

Elibean · 02/03/2012 17:27

I was curious about that too, but didn't like to ask!

I was chatting with an obstetrician once, who told me its quite common for midwives to notice someone has worms during a delivery Shock

I've done the beds and relevent cuddlies, towels and jimjams, and everyone dosed, house was cleaned this morning. That will do me - will re dose in two weeks, and thats that. Especially given the fact that I have no idea if we actually have worms or not (I have, erm, small piles that mean occasional itching anyway Blush).

My friend's ds had them on holiday (with us) last summer, for sure (she saw one): we dosed everyone, changed sheets, were careful with nails and kept bathroom v clean for a week, and re dosed two weeks later. No recurrence.

The colonoscopy is a camara up your bum, so he saw the worms in glorious technicolor Blush

Sorry but this made me laugh Methe! Must be horrid to deal with it, but as you say Largegor, the house is now very clean!

feedbackforfree · 02/03/2012 19:30

I giggled too - sorry OP. My family used to get them regularly. I used to accuse my sister's kids of bringing them down when visiting and she used to accuse my kids of the same. What we actually found out was that when she divorced her husband, neither of our families had worms ever again...... John you know who you are!!!!

feedbackforfree · 02/03/2012 19:31

I've just thought of something else that made me giggle - this is a good "thread" (worms)

countessbabycham · 02/03/2012 19:35

I've done the treatment and loads of cleaning and they came back.

I did the treatment and minimal cleaning and re dosed after 2 weeks and had no further problems.

I think the re dose after 2 weeks and good hand washing are the most important TBH.

countessbabycham · 02/03/2012 19:37

Oh,and short nails.
