steroids/ ventolin for 'chest infection'

Anyone else been prescribed these for chest infection? I have had both for asthma when a child and had a mild asthma attack Monday - but haven't had an inhaler for 7 years, and probably haven't used one for 10.

Took friends ventolin as recognised symptoms (6 puffs before it eased) and still very wheezy 2 hours later hence prescription.

40mg of predisilone and 22 puffs of ventolin later although I can't breathe in deeply I don't feel breathless now until I move!

Anyone else had this, got chest infection, feeling crap atm who wants to join me for a moan?!

I'm sure DD would love to join in. She's on her second week of steroids and has another two weeks to go. She's on two lots of antibiotics and has got through enough inhaler to inflate a hot air balloon, she can just about manage the stairs today. It's a very nasty infection isn't it? I hope you feel better soon.

does your DD have asthma? DR said it's asthma because of chest infection but probably not the asthma returning iyswim? As in once better I'll be fine again. I'm not on AB as was on them for tooth abcess when I got cold and cough.

Not been a good few weeks!

Hope your DD feels better soon. I am not as bad as her it seems - but I'm finding it strange that talking and hanging out washing is leaving me breathless.

DP gets bad chest infections often. Had steroids for the latest time and they were great - he was feeling more or less OK after a couple of days, much better than without.

Steroids are an anti-inflammatory drug. So they will allow your airways to relax and therefore open up allowing easier respiration. Whenever I'm prescribed them it's always at quite a high dose for a short period of time.
(8 x 5mg tablets for 5/6 days)
You will feel better soon.

yani that's what I have 8x5mg for 5 days. Didn't realise that was a high dose Shock

purple thanks. I have had 2 doses now and used ventolin too. Airways feel more relaxed today but getting breathless still. Nothing compared to what it was on Monday.

Hoping by tomorrow I can go back to work. Smile

youarekidding Yes, DD is asthmatic. 40mg for 5 days is a safe dose. Sadly DD is rapidly declining again but I hope you're continuing to improve.

My 14yo has 30 or 40mg for 5 or 6 days depending on how bad it is; so it's not dramatically high (iyswim)

Don't rush into work
