Referral to Pain Clinic/Specialist

I have ongoing problems with my R arm to the point where the surgeon has said my only options are either 1) ablate the ulna nerve, 2) remove the ulna nerve or 3) amputate above the elbow.

I'm on tramodol, morphine, naproxen, brufen, paracetamol, and several of each every day.

I have HAD ENOUGH of the pain/tablets/side effects - this has gone on for YEARS.

I have no use of my arm - it lives in a sling. They operated on it last August, it is no better. The nerve is shot.

I do NOT want any more drugs - I need thi sorted. I do not care about not having the use of my arm again, I really don't. I accepted long ago that it was knackered/useless.

BUT I am wondering what the response/attitude is like of these clinics? I'm referred to one in leeds - anyone any experience? Will they actually listen to me? Or will they just force me to try more and more drugs that just don't work?

Ta - the only real effect I have atm is that when speaking i sound drunk, and my neck really hurts. lol. Though I am also on the pregabelin @ 150 x 2 daily from today as well, so some of it may be due to that.

A few days in with the tablets etc and i dunno - theres been no magic release. I don't know what I was expecting from the pads, but just this morning the skin under them was numb when I took them off - but the surrounding areas weren't. The electric shocks have stopped pretty mmuch, but the pain and uselesness and sensetivity are still there.

The pregabelin is making me feel bizarre. I have holes in my brain and can fall asleep at the click of a finger.

What's the next stage for you CMOT?

ilove I take Pregabalin for nerve pain. I take 200 in the morning and 300 at night. The pain specialist said to take 300 twice daily, but I can't function! It does make you feel slightly odd when you first start taking it, but as the longer you take it the less the side effects you get IYSWIM!

I know just what you mean about being sick of being on drugs. I am the same, but struggling at the moment. I have just had to stop taking Tramadol because it is causing about 15 migraines a month. My pain specialist is ringing me on the 19th but I am not hopeful about what he will suggest.

Thats disappointing to hear ilove.

Next steps ? No idea really. About the only thing I know is that I'll need my errant finger botoxed again in a few weeks (it sticks out at 90' to the back of my hand otherwise), and its back to physio next week, but thats for the tennis elbow

ilove · 10/03/2012 19:55

landofsoap I only started it a week ago, and I'm on 150 x 2 daily now. Because she attacked from 3 angles straight away i have no idea what has stopped the electric shocks :(

CMOT you could earn good money with a hand with fingers doing that...

Mostly, I wish it was my middle finger that stuck up Grin

ilove · 10/03/2012 21:04

So is it your ET finger or could you flick the V's by adding another to it?

Little finger, and all the others don't extend at the knuckle so are bent the other way. And I can't separate my fingers or turn my hand round, so the only hand gesture I can do is to use the other hand to do a Vulcan.
My thumbs up is sideways !

Trouble with the little finger is that people feel a desperate urge to make jokes about being ready for a cup of tea Hmm. I've had it botoxed twice and it looks hugely better - and doesn't get caught on things which is hell

ilove · 11/03/2012 14:25

gawd - I automatically lift my little finger when I'm drinking - look a right dork Blush

Having a strange day today - very shaky, but as well as my hands/fingers, I can feel my insides shaking which is Not Nice
