Gallstones advice

I have had what I'd thought were reflux problems for about 18 years (i'm 34 now). It started with pin in my stomach right under brestbone and in ribs, it would last anything from a few hours to a day.
Fast forward to now and I am having the pain really frequently, maybe once or twice a week or more. I mentioned this to the doctor and he sent me for a scan which showed gallstones. The radiographer said I should make an appointment with doctor in about a week (it is this Thursday).
I was wondering why the pain has got more frequent and I think worse - any ideas? and any ideas on what the doctor may suggest?

Meant to say, during pregnancy I had Obstetric cholestasis which I believe can be linked to gallstones.

I weighed 17 and half stone when mine was removed. I used to get pain attacks after eating dry tuna and salad, dry toast, black tea... anything. I lost so much weight due to not being able to eat anything and my consultant told me off and said that rapid weight loss makes them worse. No shit Sherlock. I started suffering the attacks when heavily pg with ds as I couldn't eat properly (January 2004, gave birth Feb, had 3 massive pain attacks that required IV morphine in March, had urgent removal in the April, been pain free ever since - I would rather give birth every day for a week than ever experience that again).

The ops also get cancelled a lot (3 times for me all in all - the pains bad but rarely life threatening). Keep on at them. I think they wanted rid of me :o

Hi everyone, I just wanted to say I had an attack that woke me up at 3.00am one night, I take medication to sleep and also have very strong slow release pain meds for a couple of other illness I have. To cut a long story short I had this pain in my right side and in a daze through my other meds I was in and out of sleep but kept feeling this rather piercing pain.

I eventually got up at 6am and tried to make a hot water bottle in the time it took to do that I was ice cold, then boiling hot, I sat down with the hot water bottle and could not stand this pain any longer. My husband rushed me to A & E by this time I was sick and couldn't hold my head up, the doctor was good although it was a saturday and they could not do an ultrasound !!!( everything closes for the weekend) I had an xray and in between my blood test showed a high liver enzymes and the doctor said he thought there was something wrong with my liver which worried me as I do take a hefty lot of meds everyday, he said he was making me an appointment for ultrasound the following week.

Sent home that day and that was about 3 months ago, since then I have been confirmed at having 20+ gallstones about 3.2mm and the bile duct is 3.4mm. I have recently lost 4 stones in weight before the attacks just on a normal diet, however I have swopped my food to steamed rice, vegetables, prawns, chinese sauces etc and not had a attack since the very first one, but have had the pain in between the shoulders and felt nausea.

My question is I have also gone back to eating occasional curries, chinese buffet, Greek kebabs etc and not had any problems what so ever, yet when reading the internet alot of people shy away from anything containing fat.

I was told I could have had these stones for 10 years and not known, my father had them about 25 years ago - Has anyone else ever had 1 attack and then nothing again but managed to eat foods such as what I have listed, I carnt understand it why it the foods they say not to eat dont seem to bother me at all.
