Trigeminal Neuralgia?
And if so could it be hereditary?
My mum has suffered with it since she was in her Thirties.
Firstly diagnosed with way after first experiencing pain and had tablets for it then, they stopped working and then she tried Acupunture which really worked although it was expensive after several years. This stopped working eventually and in the end because the pain was that severs for her she agreed to have an op to remove part of the nerve behind her ear causing the problem. Two years later and she had to start taking the pills again as the pain returned and has recently had an injection of gel which numbs her face. This will last maybe upto 18mnths.

My Cousin has M.E. and also has Trigeminal Neuralgia too.

Why I ask if it is hereditary is because over the last two/three weeks or so I have noticed pain down my left side of my face which comes in waves of dull aches.
Sometimes its around my temple and I have a pain which goes down my jaw.
Now I'm completely panicstricken it's this, but hope to God it isn't. Overreacting MistressMary!
Doctors appointment will be made on Monday anyhow.
So anyone can you fill me in - in the meantime?

I've had (well that's what the GP said it was) on and off since I had my youngest whose 12. Haven't had a bad flare-up in quite a few years though.

Mine is a sharp pain from my temple, over my cheekbone down towards my nose. It's so senstive that I can't touch it and it feels as though it must look bright red as it 'burns' but there is no visible sign. I usually take ibuprofen for mine which takes the edge off. The GP prescribed carbemazapine which I prefer not to take.

It strange you mention it being hereditary. My mum had a problem with the side of her face in her 30's, more a numbness I think but not paralysed like in Bells Palsy - she came of the pill in the end as she thought it was that. Her GP said it was stress ?? As they do?

Yeah I have looked at sites and they say it's NOT herediatary but thought I would ask anyhow - To see if there is more than one person in the family that has a face or nerve problem.
So your mum had a problem with her face. Hmmmmmmmmm.
