lump in vagina at the entrance, freaking out...

timecheck · 23/02/2012 12:00

in the bath just now i checked my vagina, rarely i touch it tbh but wanted to check to see how the 'roof' seemed as i have been having possible pre-prolapse issues. to be horror i couldn't help but notice a small pea size lump to the lhs at the entrance inside at the base (not the roof) - can't get dr appointment although will try tomorrow. i can't imagine that it has been there for long as i can feel it (not with fingers) and don't think this is in my imagination...had smear and scans recently all i was told was clear. am hoping this is something simple like a cycst, never had anything like this before.

Blocked bartholins gland? Very common.

whomovedmychocolate · 23/02/2012 12:16

Could be a cyst, could be a vulval varicosity, could be an infection - could even be an swollen gland if you've had a cold. Just go get it checked when you can. You are unlikely to die of it though :)

timecheck · 23/02/2012 14:49

thanks ladies. i have just been to the gym and feel less manic although still scared, hate lumps! your posts have helped too :)

FWIW I thought I was growing a bollock one day when I woke up and had a massive lump in the back of my fanj. Turned out it was a lymph gland reaction to a blinking blister on my heel Hmm

But only found that out after baring all to a 60something GP with halitosis!

BettySuarez · 23/02/2012 16:00

Bartholins cyst? Tis lovely when they pop Wink

timecheck · 23/02/2012 18:20

betty - do they pop? i have been on the net', as you do, and i go the impression that it was more common to have an opperation to have them removed? i don't know if it is that although i kind of hope it is if you get my meaning. it is a little sore, i can feel it when i sit or stand/walk although subtle. will attempt to get dr appointment but it is so hard where i live these days. i am sure it hasn't been there for long but i don't know for sure as i rarely check myself inside, when i wash i don't wash literally inside although it isn't far in..... when i was at the gym on the sinner' i fortunately couldn't feel it, i thought it would interfere with my workout but it didn't. bloody female anatomy, so many nooks and crannies, never had this before, really hope it isn't anything more than an odd female ailment ...:)

Try an NHS walk in clinic if you can't get a GP appt or family planning (they do deal with anything in the nether regions :)

nameuschangeus · 24/02/2012 11:29

I had this - it was a bartholin's cyst. Get an appointment with your GP just to get it checked out but I bet it's nothing to be concerned about. Mine drained itself of its own accord and touch wood has not returned.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 24/02/2012 11:31

Sounds like a bartholins cyst thingy, I have a recurrent one

Casablancagirl · 24/02/2012 11:40

May well be the b cyst thingie. I developed a haematoma last Oct due to "over vigourous sex" apparently which had led me to having face a general anaesthetic to have the injury dealt with in the next couple of months. Mine is agony...... But the consultant did mention the b cyst thing......See your GP asap.

timecheck · 24/02/2012 14:29

thanks ladies - saw lovely gp this morning, she said it was a cyst & that i should get it removed due to the area (too uncomfortable to leave) so i will await my nhs date to come through, in the mean time going to the gym is a bit tricky as i do alot on the spinning machine.....so i went for a fry up this morning instead :) i am sure it has only come up in the last week. cysts can grow too so noway could i leave it. i don't think it is one of those bartholin's as i don't think it is quit in the right area for that (been on the net looking at pictures) although not too far off. still don't like lumps, be happier when it has gone. dh is thinking we can't have sex in the mean time, i told him he will have to just learn some different creative moves :D

Well I'm glad you got it booked in for surgery. They can get very big. Incidentally if they go.....boy are they whiffy. It will smell like a badger has died in your fadge Grin

timecheck · 24/02/2012 23:00

whom - actually, i am a little nervous about it getting bigger. i am hoping in my ignorance that it may pop (?) so i don't have to go under the knife. can't believe that this 'thing' has appeared within, i think, the last few days. really bloody uncomfortable plus i have an eye infection, i feel like real beauty right now :)

OP posts:
whomovedmychocolate · 25/02/2012 07:30

Nah you really don't want it to pop - they refill anyway and then six months later you are back in the same state. Keep an eye on the eye infection (pardon the pun) as systemic reactions are common if it's getting worse. If you get a high fever, nausea or vomiting or flu like symptoms go back to the GP immediately.

FWIW the op is quite, gross and really good for training junior doctors Wink

whomovedmychocolate · 25/02/2012 07:31

That should have been quick and gross Wink

timecheck · 25/02/2012 12:08

whom - re your eye comment - i have had a puffy eye (bigger bag under it than the other side) for a while now, tbh not sure how long as i rarely look in the mirror (don't wear make up) but few friends plus eye check man the other week commented on it so went to dr. it isn't red or itching, feels occasionally like there might be something in it but not majorly. it doesn't feel like an allergy reaction, i know what that feels like as i have always been allergic to cats etc although we got a cat four months ago and i am not allergic to her. dd has food allergies so am more than familiar with the signs. i only mention this as your post freaked me a bit as i wasn't at all worried about my eye but am now getting paranoid. i have been feeling a bit off colour the last few days, slightly light headed but am ignoring it as just feel under the weather, i don't feel ill ill or allergic at all Confused

I had a B cyst which grew into a massive abscess & then popped. Was the weirdest of my many ailments & fascinating to watch! Was pretty painful though.

Not caused me any trouble since but does show up on scans, so is still there is some form or another.

whomovedmychocolate · 25/02/2012 16:59

Hmm well don't panic. But I'd get that eye checked out. You could have an immune reaction to the cat which is not the usual one - I get all sorts of interesting lumps in reaction to things I'm allergic too.

You could try taking an antihistamine and see if the eye magically clears up?

timecheck · 25/02/2012 18:13

whom - that's a good tip re piriton, thanks. my only worry, what if i AM having an allergic reaction to her? i can't give herup.....

I must share my fanjo-cyst story.

It started as a small, pea-sized lump, gradually growing bigger and bigger (I was a twat and ignored it, hoping it would go away). After about 6 months, it had become swollen and infected and extremely painful. I went off to a festival in Paris and had to place folded up tissue against it as a cushion.

On the last day, we had a meander around Paris, under the Eiffel Tower, to the musée d'érotisme etc.. My mate had a cheese baguette for breakfast and I kept thinking how strong the cheese must have been, as I could still smell it on her, hours later. Wink

Until I went to the loo and discovered that my cyst had burst. By golly, the gunk that flowed out was a thing to behold. And the smell, strong cheesy Brie Grin

You're welcome pus-pervs.

timecheck · 25/02/2012 18:45

mother - bloody hell fire, that sounds bloody awful. nope, i am awaiting a hospital appointment to get the bugger cut out :) i feel sorry for your poor friends who must have noticed the smell!!

OP posts:
MotherMucca · 25/02/2012 19:17

Yes, it was awful. I was incredibly stupid not going to the GP.

My friend was mildly affronted that I'd mistaken my cyst-pus for her cheesy breath. Grin

Hope all goes well with your procedure.

timecheck · 25/02/2012 19:31

thanks mother. bit concerned as i can't imagine that i will have the appointment for a couple of months and i don't think we will be able to have sex, it is right by the doorway if you get my drift.... still think it is funny that you thought your cyst's smell was your friends sarni/breath. i don't like general anasthetics, prefer local but gp thought it would be a general, HATE that feeling of going under even though it only lasts a few seconds & the neurosis that is paranoia about not waking up or feeling the pain but being under. i have seen too many films i guess...:)

OP posts:
MotherMucca · 25/02/2012 20:08

Oh really, general? I would've thought local (layperson alert). I'm sure you'll be grand.

Shame about the sex though. I'm on a two year hiatus (and counting Sad), so you have my sympathies.

HappyHippyChick · 25/02/2012 21:46

I had a massive b cyst when I was pregnant last year (it was so massive every person who saw it recoiled and then said variations on "wow it is big" my gp kept going on about how it was the size of a plum!). I had to have a local due to the pregnancy. It exploded all over the surgeon - very satisfying!
