I really cannot be bothered to change my name - but I am having a real problem ....
Y'see, it's my bladder .... I seem to go to the loo far too often ....

I wake up in the morning having slept through the night and go to the loo ( full bladder ) ... but it kicks off after that.

It seems that No sooner have I had a drink - that it goes through my system and I have to go again ... I seem to go to the loo every 45 mins ( on average ).
The problem is that I cannot hang on. I always seem to be bursting for a pee ....

It's really getting me down and interfering with my day ...

Any ideas ??

Thanks

What sort of amounts are you passing?

Crystaltips · 26/01/2006 20:15

Literally - the same amount as I had drunk - ie : a mug/glass full

Are you passing full bladder loads every time? Are you drinking lots of caffeine in tea/coffee/coke/hot chocolate etc?
are you thirsty all the time? drinking copious amounts of water which isn't qeunching your thirst? Any indications of urine infection?

Sorry, not suppose to sound like the spanish inquisision! !(sp)

Mercy · 26/01/2006 20:17

Have you (fairly) recently had a baby? How old are you?

Crystaltips · 26/01/2006 20:26

Gloworm · 26/01/2006 20:31

it can be stress related.

Mercy · 26/01/2006 20:34

How long has it been going on for? Could you possibly be pregnant?

(it's the Spanish Inquisition again)

chapsmum · 26/01/2006 20:41

sounds like you have a very weak pelvic floor, ever get caught short?

Crystaltips · 26/01/2006 20:53
  • No chance of pregnancy ( phew )

  • It's always been bad - but it's getting worse

  • I don't think that there is too much at the moment to be stressed about

  • YES I always get caught short .... I know the loos in our area intimately

Have you been doing pelvic floor exercises? It does sound like your pelvic floor is weak.

You could ask your GP for a refferal to the continence clinic if you have been doing PFE without any effect.

chapsmum · 26/01/2006 21:03

Yip, sounds like you've prob got a weak pelvic floor from having your kids. This is v v treatable, but you should act now as it can lead to incontonance in later life.
Start doing those pelvic floor exercises, you know the ones that you can do at a bus stop and no one wil know
And get a referral from your gp to a urology/gyn clinic that specialises if pelvic floor repair.
Hope this helps

Crystaltips · 26/01/2006 21:04

Last did my pelvic floor at my ante-natal clinic

Sorry to sound naive - but do they really make a difference ???

OP posts:
HenniPenni · 26/01/2006 21:08

Yep, most definatly do help as long as there done properly! also a strong pelvic floor does wonders for your sex life .

Crystaltips · 26/01/2006 21:09

How long before I start noticing a difference

OP posts:
HenniPenni · 26/01/2006 21:12

Sorry to be blunt but it depends on how knackered they are! they need to be done every single day, several times a day - think they recommend every hour but can't be sure of that. But they have to be done properly to have any effect.

HenniPenni · 26/01/2006 21:13

And whatever you do don't practise them mid-flow!!

chapsmum · 26/01/2006 21:16

you can get aids to help you practise, no really proper ones with different stiffnes, you can buy them in boots, happy squeezin. lucky dh...

Crystaltips · 26/01/2006 21:28

HenniPenni - what's the right way and what's the wrong way ??

and why not mid-flow ??

God I am thick

OP posts:
HenniPenni · 26/01/2006 21:51

Mid flow can cause urinary retention.

To do it properly visualise your pelvic floor as a lift.

Gradually draw in your muscles around your urethra, vagina and rectum, now, draw them in together slightly for a count of ten but don't forget to breath! After the count of ten draw them in slightly more and count to ten again.

Continue to do this until you can pull in no further and then relax. Whilst doing this don't tense your tummy muscles or buttocks as this is cheating!!. Do these exercises groups of 5 about every hour if you can.

This is not a quick remedy but if you have some tone in your pelvic floor to begin with then you should be alright.

notasheep · 26/01/2006 22:21

My midwife advised me to do pelvic floor exercises EVERY day for the rest of my life!

mummytosteven · 26/01/2006 22:28

it may also help if you cut out the coffee - caffeine is a diuretic and irritates your bladder, so can exacerbate bladder problems.

Crystaltips · 27/01/2006 11:38

I stop coffee at about 2.30 and my last cup of tea is about 4.30 .... from then on it's water or herbals teas ....

That'snot too late is it ??

Has anyone tried aqua flex from boots. My pelvic floor is really bad and I am now getting quite concerned. I bought this thinking that I would surely be able to use at least 2 - 3 of the weights together. My, oh my, did I get a surprise. There are 4 weights, 5, 10, 20 and 20. All bar the 5 fell out after a minute of so. It just shows how bad it really is. I'm only 36 and have had 2 natural births. I hope this aqua flex works, something needs to. Has anyone else any great tips?

TambaTheTemptress · 30/01/2006 17:31

I wee loads!

I get up every 3 hours in the night and go every hour or so in the day. Big wees too! Its very annoying.
