Anyone had a breast change other than a lump and it's turned out OK?

Have a sort of thickening / general lumpiness in one side as opposed to an actual lump....been to breast clinic today and had mammogram (am on the young side for this but have family history)

Consultant did a mobile ultrasound which seemed to confirm it was fibrous / glandy breast tissue but he wants to check mammo doesn't pick up something that's not showing

Am a bit worried :S

I think they would have done a core biopsy at the same time as the ultrasound if they thought it was suspicious. When are you going back to breast clinic or are they going to ring you?

Thanks for your reply....that reassures me....They want me to go back because they want to do an ultrasound in the main ultrasound dept as the one they did today was a mobile ultrasound...not sure what an ultrasound would show up that a mammogram doesnt tho :S

paddy, not sure how old you are, but they tend to use ultrasound on younger women (pre-menopause), as the breast tissue's different and ultrasound's easier to read than mammogram results (I think!). Sounds pretty positive to me though, as they do tend to do biopsies on the spot if they're worried about anything. When are you going back?

Goodness, yes. Lots of lumpy bits, all mammogrammed, u/s-ed and one bit even biopsied. Had them for years - apparently fairly common to develop lumpy bits as one gets older, and mine started aged around 40 (and after several miscarriages and IVF, which may have played a part).

There are loads of reasons for lumpy thick bits which are not BC, paddy, but its always good to check Smile

Yes I developed a thickening and had a mammogram which was completely normal and an ultrasound which showed thickened gland tissue - both completely benign. I am not sure why one breast suddenly decided to develop thickened tissue but I still have the thickening and it has not changed since (18 months ago). Good luck, I would like to say try not to worry but having been there I know easier said than done.

I have very lumpy boobs!

I had an ultrasound when I was about 19 for an especially lumpy bit, too young then for a mammogram and was told I was very lumpy.

Good that you are getting it checked and I do remember the fear. It is very hard checking yourself when you have lumps all over the place...

Good luck.

Thank-you all so much for your reassuring replies...I too have very lumpy boobs and have had needle biopsies for fibro-adinomas in the past....i think it threw me this time because it was a thickening rather than a lump!

I did see the main consultant at the hosp and was glad that they were able to do the mammo there and then...he did mention an MRI scan as they are now regularly used in younger women (i did smile at being called a younger woman - i'm 37 lol!)..but i was really didnt fancy that at all so he did the mammo.

He wants me to go back in 2 weeks to get the results of the mammo and at that point they will do an ultrasound in the main X-ray dept but will do that when i go back.

When i've had biopsies at that clinic they've done them in the morning and phoned me with the results that afternoon so i'm hoping the 2 week delay is a positive sign Confused
