Boils!

I need the wise ladies advice on here please! My DH will not see the light and go and visit (or even register with) the GP. He seems to think that the boils he has (which are on his bum!) are 'nothing' and will go away. Which they haven't. He got one a year ago. He still has the same one, which now and then has a crust on it, and is scarred around the site. He has others too, on both buttocks, and he has scars from them, and boils appearing where the scars are.

Will he be taken seriously by the GP, and what will they do/recommend?

I'm ready to wash my hands of him, because he won't listen. One, its gross, and two, I am concerned for him!

He's 21 for goodness sake, not old enough for boils on his bum, but not young enough to be this immature! And he won't look after his own health...

He isn't scared, he just dislikes doing anything that involves doctors or dentists. I'm tempted to secretly register him, and make him an appointment, and then get him to come along by saying it is an appointment for me (which he would usually come to if we are both off work). And yes, I've already checked on my GP's website, I can register him and sign the forms Grin...

You are inviting the pusporners with that title Grin.
Does your DH keep his bottom clean? my understanding is a boil likes a bit of muck. Sweat and grime plug the pores leading to boils.
Does he change his pants regularly. I sound like his Mum but those would be good starting points. Wash his arse and change his kecks.

He does both of the above! Daily shower, sometimes a bath too. Changes pants every day, doesn't wear them in bed. In fact he has an obscene amount of bloody pants!

He does sweat A LOT at night, from the second he falls asleep the perspiration beads are forming, and his hair is stuck to his head. The bed stinks and is soaked through on his side every day, and the bedding has to be changed daily in summer (or every other day if I am prepared to tolerate it by turning away from him so the smell doesn't hit me!) and every 3 days in winter. It smells like gone off vinegar - and he can smell it too!

Maybe he has a sweat problem! Although in the day, he doesn't excessively sweat, well no more than you would expect from a day in work (supermarket - lots of lifting, and running around).

I'm not selling him well here am I?! He's not unhygienic, in general. I dunno what is up with him! I thought it might be 'teenage' hormones still...?!

The other thing is, I have never had a boil, so clearly his musn't be infectious, as we sometimes have shared a towel, or bath water etc.

Ps. I love pus Grin

In all seriousness, he should get himself checked by the GP. Sometimes there can be other medical problems that can give rise to recurrent boils.

I would keep to your own towels too.

I don't think he should necessarily be harangued about his hygiene, poor chap!
We all have bacteria on our skin, and under certain circumstances (an underlying illness, a compromised immune system) we can't fight them of as we would normally.

I think he should definitely see a doctor, - he will be taken seriously esp. as this is a recurrent problem, he should mention his excessive sweating too soaking the bed is not usual for most people, and they can run some tests, to see what is going on with him.

How you persuade him to do that is another matter though. IT could well be something fairly easily sorted, - surely flashing your bum at the doc. is a good trade off for feeling, comfortable and well.

Good luck - hope he gets it sorted soon.
