Trace of blood in discharge (tmi sorry)

Last month I had a spot of blood a few days before my period started which was unusual. The period was then heavier than normal and lasted longer.

Yesterday I noticed a trace of blood in discharge (very very slight) and am due to start my period in a few days.

Should I be concerned?

Would suggest you chat with the GP about these changes to your cycle. Any spotting between periods should always be reported to the GP; it is often not serious but it should be checked out anyway.

I've had exactly the same thing - traces of blood a few days before a period, and also mid cycle. It happened over a couple of cycles 2 years ago, and again last year. the first time I saw my GP (I was anxious because I'd previously had treatment for CIN and so was much more aware of any changes that could be cervix related). She took swabs to see if I had an infection - all clear. She didn't seem too bothered but I ended up paying to see a gynaecologist to get a colposcopy and smear - again all clear. He thought it was probably hormone related and linked to lower progesterone levels and anovulatory cycles as I'm in my late 30s. I stopped getting the traces of blood so thought it was just a blip, and didn't take the norethisterone he prescribed.

When it happened again last year I went back to the gynaecologist and ended up having a transvaginal ultrasound. Nothing showed up to explain the spotting but it did show a large ovarian cyst which I've since had removed. The consultant I saw for that also thought the spotting was hormone related. I think that's by far the most likely thing in your case, especially as it's happening a few days before your period begins. See your GP anyway, and see what they say. Maybe also see what your period does this month to compare.
