Looks like breastmilk, but not pg?

This morning I noticed a little yellowish bit on the tip of my nipple. I squeezed and a drop of white fluid came out. I'm not pg (tested today) so I'm now worrying what this is. It can't be breastmilk can it? It's 2 years since I last breastfed.
Has anyone else had this? Do I need to go to doctors? It seems such a little thing to bother them with.

I kept on producing milk for over a year after I stopped feeding DS2, so it quite likely is breastmilk, but I would go to your doctors anyway. Hopefully they'll put your mind at rest, but discharge from the breast can be a symptom of breastcancer so it's not a little thing to bother them with. Sorry -don't want to scare you - the chances are it is milk and nothing to worry about.

Are you on any meds? I know that, for example, some anti-d's can cause you to produce milk as one of their side effects.

Thanks for your reply. Looks like I'll be booking an appointment then. Hope it's nothing serious.

No medicines. I have the Mirena so I did wonder if it was a side effect but google suggests not!

Probably worth a check up anyway, but sounds like you wouldn't be the first to be affected in that way: www.circleofmoms.com/mirena-moms/has-mirena-caused-anyone-else-to-lactate-519013

Thanks for that link lazydog It's reassuring to know that there is possibly a reasonably innocent reason for it as well as a scary one.

It might be nipple thrush, a friend of mine had it, what you've described sounds similar to hers.

NamingFlora · 20/02/2012 18:17

Did she have any other symptoms Kate? It's not sore at all

I got this, started in one and then the other joined in, about 7 years after I stopped BF'ing.

Went to docs who referred to breast clinic and got checked out and he said it is actually pretty common and wasnt cancer.

You do need to get it checked to be sure but I wanted to reassure you that it doesnt nec mean that it is!

NamingFlora · 21/02/2012 12:12

Thanks lookbutdonttouch I have just got back from Docs who has referred me to breast clinic and said pretty much exactly the same thing Smile
Hopefully it will turn out to be nothing in he end.

I have also had this, it turned out to be nothing, but the referral to the breast clinic found a unrelated mss in a milk duct, which I had surgery to remove a year ago. A little bit of discharge may well have saved my life. Pop along, get it checked out by the GP, who will refer you to the breast clinic, I am sure all will be fine.

KateSpade · 23/02/2012 07:56

Sorry, I've just got back on here, mad busy at work!

So, its not nipple thrush then?

SparkleRainbow · 23/02/2012 11:38

Unlikely I think, unless you have itching. There is a duct condition which causes discharge, and can be cured by does of strong AB. Wish I could remember its name....but have mushy brain these days. Just pop along to gp, they will refer you to breast clinic. The appt should be within two weeks max. They will do a mammo and an ultrasound as standard (probably) you will see a consultant, and then you will know for sure it is fine, and have had a fully breast tissue check up!

SparkleRainbow · 23/02/2012 11:38

full check up....sorry poor typing.

KateSpade · 24/02/2012 22:36

Aw, no. It will most likely be nothing serious, but its not nice to have to go through the rigmarole, ect. Were here for hand holding and everything!
