DS has molluscum contagiosum. The GP has said nothing can be done and that it will clear up over time. Can anyone recommend anything to treat it? A friend recommended a homeopathic remedy, thuja?

My DS had this last year and the Dr told me it would take 6 to 12 months to clear up. I got rid of it in three weeks doing the following:

Daily wash with Boots Tea Tree and wichhazel facial wash ( use on whole body)

Stopped using sponges and flannels in the bath/shower ( in fact I banned baths!)

Treated each spot with a tea tree and wichhazel cream morning and night

Squeezed any blisters that looked about to pop and covered with a plaster treated with tea tree /wichhazel cream ( did this morning and night)

Washed bedding every day ( a pain but worth it)

All towels used once only and then washed

Kept him off swimming for three weeks.

Doctor was amazed when I went back for a follow up appointment.

My DS has excema too but The above treatment caused no problems.

Hope you get it under control soon.

Also when I popped the blusters I used a Boots whitchazel and tea tree facial wipe between my fingers to catch the core and to prevent the infection spreading.

I was told by my gp, 14 years ago when DS1 first had this, that the only way ro get rid was to pierce each spot and pluck out the thread, which was considered too invasive, so best just sit it out and wait.

Sounds like that's exactly what you achieved, Angels - hats off to you!
Another reason for me to wish MN t'internet had been around in those days.

I should add that I followed the above course of treatment DS after trawling through every thread about Molluscum in the history of mumsnet and picking out all the things that had worked for other people!

My dgs has this and dd[his mum] was advised to leave them alone and they would go.I printed off lots of info re various remedies but she decided to let it be.Most come and go quite quickly but one or two near his eyes became quite inflamed and the GP prescribed antibx. He is just turned 3 now and they have almost disappeared.

We tried everything. Nothing helped, then suddenly, after 2 years they disappeared.

I couldn't wait for my DS's to clear up on their own - there was barely an inch of his legs that wasn't covered in blisters Sad.

Both mine have had them for over 2 years. Tried everything; tea tree; thuja; etc. all with no success. I am now taking a more direct approach and aggravating them and knocking the heads off with a towel after the bath. Hopefully this will prompt the immune response which my GP promised me would happen 18 months ago!
