Does anyone use self intermittent catheters?

My incomplete spinal cord injury has Left me with bladder and bowel problems. My bowels I take an endless list of laxatives and use a peristeen (also waiting to be taught manual evacuation)

For my bladder, I've had catheters that stay in on and off over the years for retention.
The usual for me since spinal cord injury, is that I can wee, but I strain to wee, plus my bladder doesn't empty fully.
They have been trying to persuade me for a while to teach me to self catheterise myself, but I've put it off so many times. One reason being nurses struggle to catheterise me, so if they struggle how the hell am I going to do it.
Plus, with the peristeen, I can feel with my fingers where the opening of my anus is, but with the wee hole, that is so small I won't be able to feel it with my fingers.
So I am nervous of doing it.

How do you get on if you already do it to yourself?

Have you thought of a suprapubic catheter which only needs changing once a week. My son had one for 9 years as I felt it was intrusive to catheterise him.
