Why am I so bloated?

Not posted in health before but have recently gone back to FT work and don't have time to go Tk the doctors for something that seems a little trivial. Can you lovely people help?

For the last couple of weeks I have been really bloated. As far as I can tell, there hasn't been a dramatic change in my diet. I have been eating more in the evenings (stress-related and I do have strategies to keep this under control, so it's less of an issue).

The bloating is REALLY uncomfortable. And I've never had it before. I'm a pretty normal size 12 but my tummy looks like it did when I was 6 months pregnant.

For example, yesterday I ate - porridge with milk, an innocent veg pot and a packet of dried mango, then Thai green chicken curry made with low fat coconut milk, which had carrots, mushrooms and courgette in. And I was so bloated that I went out and got some colpermin in the desperate hope that it wiuld help. It didn't.

Please help! Sorry if this is long, I am a bit upset and a lot uncomfortable.

Have you had a lot of wind too?

CalamityLame · 16/02/2012 08:22

Yes a bit, but it hasn't been terrible...

Have you changed your diet or had tummy pain?

CalamityLame · 16/02/2012 08:28

No real change in diet, not eating anything new / unusual. No actual stomach pain, just pain in abdomen where the bloating is.

And last might when I went to bed it felt very hard just above where my right ovary is (ish. Not great at anatomy)

Could be ovulation pain. Right hand pain could also be your appendix

lookbutdonttouch · 16/02/2012 10:10

Are you constipated at all? Any problems with periods?

Come on, give us every single detail please!

CalamityLame · 16/02/2012 10:36

Sorry- I don't know what information you might need!

Right. Periods - I have a copper coil so they are supposed to be heavy but actually have been quite light for the last couple of months. It was about 2 weeks late in December, but was fine again in Jan.

Yes, I am quite constipated.

This new job has meant that i am sitting at a desk for most of the day, rather than being on my feet, but I am do walk about a mile and a half each morning / evening.

I can't think of much else to tell you?

I think you should go and see the doctor. Bloating can be a sign of something wrong on the ovary.

roopickles · 16/02/2012 11:33

I agree with BayPolar its best to get checked.

CalamityLame · 16/02/2012 11:39

Yes, that has been crossing my mind. The thing is, I commute and really can't take a morning off to go to a GP, though I am registered with one where I live. Could there be a drop in clinic somewhere near work (Mayfair), or are they all GUM clinics?

Have you had any operations in the lower abdomen area - i.e. appendix, c-section? Just asking as I went through a really bad time with bloating, and it turned out I had adhesions from my appendix operation which interfered with my intestines and caused the bloating. Had the adhesions removed and the bloating disappeared. Just a thought...

CalamityLame · 16/02/2012 11:42

Ok. Found a walk-in centre in Soho. Is that a good bet, or will they be useless?

OP posts:
CalamityLame · 16/02/2012 11:44

No, no operations. DD was straightforward V birth (2 years ago) have never had much to go to doctors for, so feels odd that u am actually worried about something, IYKWIM

see if your docs stay open late, ours are open till half seven so its really handy, whatever it is you need to get it sorted as you dont want to stay bloated and uncomfortable, maybe go on NHS website :)

roopickles · 16/02/2012 11:47

Try walk in if you really havent got time, they know what theyre doing.

CalamityLame · 16/02/2012 11:59

Our doctors surgery don't do appointments later than 4.30?!

Going to try the walk in today, I'm actually really worried now. Thanks all.
