Hello,

I'm a bit of a newbie here but I have really bad thrush (again!) and was just wondering if anyone had tried Topida, from Salcura.

I get thrush all the time and hate having to use all the creams etc.
read that topida is a spray so thinking it might be a bit easier and nicer to use down there?...

used other Salcura products for my eczema before and they worked great for that but just wanted to see if anyone had tried and tested the Topida before i bought it?...

thank you x

'fraid I haven't taken Topida but I do feel your pain, I seem to be a martyr to bloody thrush!

Canesten does come in an oral tablet, maybe try that? Alternatively ask your doctor if there's anything tougher they can prescribe for you. And as a general life tip, don't wear underwear/do wear loose-fitting items when you're at home -the organisms that cause thrush don't like air!! Grin

Is it definitely thrush? With a discharge, or is it more just itching and sore? Confirmed with a swab from docs? I ask because I thought I had recurrent thrush, but after ten years, it turns out it could be eczema or lichen planus, and thus needing completely different treatment. If you already get eczema, it might be worth double checking.

Thrush can get right through your system, and even in your bowel. When it does, external remedies don't work. I had a problem with it, and after reading an article in the Times, went back to the gp and was finally given an oral remedy. It worked.

It can be a symptom of autoimmune problems, like diabetes and underactive thyroid etc

Buy a Diflucan capsule from the chemist (or a Boots/own brand alternative). Use a Canestan pessary and cream for good measure.

Then:

  • come off the pill (if you're taking it)
  • stop eating carbohydrates (fruit, pasta, rice, potatoes, bread, sugar)
  • stop drinking alcohol
  • cut out mushrooms, soy sauce, smoked foods
  • don't eat leftover food (it develops a mould very quickly)
  • don't bathe or wash using soap or anything scented
  • try putting a small amount of tea tree oil into your bath
  • don't wear tight trousers
  • wear cotton underwear
  • boil wash your underwear
  • make sure your partner treats himself with Canestan too
  • go and buy a good quality probiotic from a good health food shop (acidophilus is a good one - it should be kept in the fridge)
