Suspected urine infection

I suspect I may have a urine infection, if I make an emergency doctor's appointment for tomorrow will they require a sample of urine for testing or will they just listen to the symptoms (dull ache in lower abdomen, constant feeling of needing to urinate, occasional sudden emergency feeling of needing to go) and diagnose from these. The reason I ask is that I have no childcare so will have to take 14 month old DD with me and they don't let you bring buggies into the surgery so I will have nowhere secure to put her down so would need to prepare a sample at home to take in with me.

You poor thing. I can totally sympathise about the UTI feeling but also about the hassles of trying to see a GP with a little one in tow!

IME, you def WILL need a urine sample so take a fresh one with you (a clean, plastic drink bottle will do). Check with your surgery because mine will allow you to drop a sample in which is then checked by the nurse and any necessary action taken on that basis. Hope you get it sorted and feel better soon.

Thanks, I will do a sample just in case then, have some clean jars in the kitchen so I could use one of those.

That would be fine. They must see all sorts of odd containers! I've used some random things in the past (kid's water bottles and a small tupperware once which leaked all over my OH's bag as he was dropping it off for me!)
