What are your top tips for having 'normal' periods?

As opposed to ludicrously heavy ones? I find I get at least two days where my Mooncup is not up to the task. One of those days is due to sheer volume of blood and another is due to clots (sorry if tmi). It"s kind of hard to leave the house on those days.

I can't take oestrogen pills. I was on Micronor but fell pg while using it. That slowed things down a little. I tried nexplanon but just bled constantly. I am reluctant to try mirena as my track record is not looking good.

I take daily aspirin for a blood-clotting disorder. I eat healthily. I am not overweight but do not exercise much, due to joint problems. I'm 41.

So please share your top tips, including the unlikely ones, cos I'm fed up. Thank you!

Tranexamic acid from the GP is supposed to be good. To some extent, taking ibuprofen reduces blood loss and worked for me for a lot of the time - but I've had to stop taking it now because it upsets my stomach. Get a blood test done to see if you're anaemic, because it's likely that you are or if not your iron stores will be low, which does seem to make my bleeding worse although I don't know if that's something other people notice.

I'd see the GP, because there may be other things that work, like the endometrial ablation which one of my friends has had, with some success. Good luck. It's a pain, I know.

Don't give up on the Mirena... it really is fabulous for heavy periods. And if it doesn't agree with you can have it straight out. Worth a try.

Thanks! I can no longer take ibuprofen as am on methotrexate and I've a feeling that tranexamic acidis out because of the blood clotting disorder. (I know: what a bummer!)
Good thinking about iron levels. I have regular blood tests so I'll ask about that. Still not sure about the Mirena. I just seem to react either badly or oddly to so many things. Nonetheless, I really do appreciate all the advice - thank you.
