Dr's or opticians for six year old complaining of blurred vision?

Over the weekend ds has been complaining that sometimes his vision is "shakey". He's six so hard to get an accurate description of what's going on. Should I take him to dr's first or optician? We do have an eye casualty at the local hospital but not sure if it warrants going there yet?

Optician

if there is anything at all exciting going on they will refer back to the Hospital Eye Service, sometimes directly, sometimes via your gp.

I would likely go to my optician first. Ds had hyperblinking syndrome and it was my first port of call. If you have a good optician they will advise you if they think it is a medical problem.

I wouldn't go to the eye a&e as it's hrs sitting round to do the same as the optician. If you need it the optician will send you and may even make an advanced appointment so you don't need to wait around.

I would say prob visit both, optician first. My mil's mini stroke was picked up by her optician who could see a blood clot behind her eye, he write to her GP who then referred her to hospital.

Both. Make appointments and whichever one can fit him in first is the one you see first.

You can always cancel the other if the first can treat the problem.

Thanks will ring both now and see who we can see first.

was going to say do your optician first, as your GP will just tell you to do that before they do anything.

hope you get on, ok

he may have been describing a migraine. This can cause visual disturbances. Best to try optician first for a regular check, then see the Dr if this shakiness continues
