Step father admitted to hosp lunchtime. He doesn't live near me so have been waiting for news.

Decided to transfer him 60+miles with life threatening condition (def terminal but don't know how acute). They are moving him to hospital v close to me.

Waiting for them to leave in ambulance then I will head up to meet them.

What should I take?
Cash for car park
TextBooks (is this insensitive I'm thinking I could spend a lot of time waiting alone in waiting rooms whilst DM and his DD are with him.)

I'm sure there are other useful things I could/should take.

Snacks?
Change for coffee machine?

Warm coat and scarf or maybe even a blanket type thing as the corridors can be freezing.

DressDownFriday · 10/02/2012 21:57

Hankies
wet wipes to freshen up with

Ty.

I should say that I have obviously asked my dm if there is anything she wants me to take and says no....I have never been I'm this position before so don't know what to think of.

Will put some snacks in. And warm coat good idea. Thanks.

Bottle of water or two, dress in layers- hospitals are hot, phone charger, do you have access to mums address book or have other relatives numbers in your phone ?( hopefully for updates, not just in case of bad news). Handcream, lip salve, toothbrush/paste in case you're there a long time and also novel or magazines as you may find it impossible to concentrate in text books.

twolittlemonkeys · 10/02/2012 22:00

Definitely cash (hospital car parks are extortionate IME), snacks and drinks, something to do (eg your textbooks, perhaps also a magazine/sudoku book - sometimes you just want something you don't have to concentrate too hard on) as you are bound to have time to kill, make sure you have your phone, a small bag of toiletries and bits to freshen up with, and definitely extra layers (maybe a change of clothes?)

CMOTDibbler · 10/02/2012 22:03

Def some snacks and drinks. Maybe a new toothbrush/paste/flannel etc if they might not have had time to pack. Tissues.

Will you be bringing DM back to yours tonight ? If not, maybe a blanket for her and a flask if she might be hanging around all night

Chargers for any electrical devices. Spare knickers and/or panty liners. Cash card (so you can buy what you forget). Bottled water. Sweeties/snacks. Old favourite book (in case you can't concentrate). Indoor comfy shoes. Any prescription drugs of your own, plus things like paracetamol for you. Generally the sorts of things you'd put in your hand luggage for a long flight.

And best wishes to you. I hope it all stabilises quickly.

Book
phone and charger
spare clothes
flannel deodrant and other toiletries
toothbrush and paste
PJ for DSF?
contact details for relevant people
snacks and drinks
flask of coffe
coat etc for journey - it's cold!
things your DM might need

I am really tired.

When they leave 1st hospital they need a 40-50 minute head start before I need to think about leaving here. They have no idea when they are leaving yet (have been told it will be tonight). Should I try an get an hours kip or will that screw me having to wake back up in middle of night?

I'd try and have a sleep. It can take a while to sort out an ambulance, and you might be up a long time
