Obv namechanged, more than happy to have MNHQ confirm I'm a regular if it makes anyone twitchy. I'm 35 weeks pregnant and have just this evening discovered I have a lovely case of worms. I was having a good wash in the shower as I felt itchy and have been for a few days (I do shower everyday but you know what I mean) and I saw a worm on the flannel. So, being a curious sort, I got out the hand mirror to see if I could see anymore. Well, yes I deffo have worms, presumably from ds as he's just started using the toilets at nursery and he's been under the weather a bit too. Hopefully a quick trip to the doctor in the morning will sort that out with something, hopefully a one dose medicine thing, even for me being pregnant. I hope so anyway, I cannot abide this itch :( I've got all the towels and bedsheets in the wash and will strip the dc's beds as soon as they wake up.
But it gets worse. When I looked in the handmirror, it looks like I have a prolapse. My bits look literally unrecognisable, there is definately something sticking out, and the whole area looks hideously swollen, which I suppose can be put down to the extra pressure the baby's putting there. I also have a couple of lovely piles Hmm. So now I am mortified but I know i have to go to the doctor and ask them to look. Will they even bother doing anything woth a prolapse this close to the birth? I've always suspected I had a slight problem after dc2 was born but never got it checked. I'm terrified that actually giving birth will make the whole thing fall out. Tbh I can;t see how I can even give birth with what looks like a big obstruction in the way. But the worst hting is, that apart from the itch, I don't feel any different than normal, which makes me wonder how long it's been like that.
So tomorrow I'll make an appointment. I know a nurse will be easier to see, but is this something that needs a GP? The two things combined make me feel absolutely disgusting :(

Poor you! But the worms can be treated eaily and quickly at least (our children do love to share things with us, dont they?)

Not an expert but seems unlikely they would do anything about a prolapse at your stage of pregnancy. Hopefully it will settle after the birth. It may not be as bad as you think - you didnt know there was an issue until you looked, which seems a good sign.? Can you talk to your midwife first, she may say leave it til after the birth to get checked out so at least you dont need to flash your bottom yet?

It will be less severe once the weight of the baby isnt bearing down...and plenty that can be done if you are left with some issues. x

Thanks for the reply :) I phoned the surgery this morning (on the bus on the way to nursery, when will I learn Hmm) and the receptionist wanted me to describe the problem. Not a chance, so I'm waiting for a callback from the duty docto. I'm only going to mention the worms as I'm seeing my midwife first thing next week anyway. I do hope it's just the weight of everything maybe exacerbating whatever the possible existing problem after my second birth was, but oh dear I felt a real state last night. I'm currently scrubbing everything in my house to take my mind off my poor swollen bits.

Eek - receptionist wanted to know?? How odd!

My promise to myself after 2 DCs is never to look at my bits again....ignorance is bliss!!

Hope doc and midwife can reassure you x

FaithHopeAndKevin · 10/02/2012 11:34

And you weren't tempted to tell the receptionist really loudly on the bus so everyone could hear? Hmm

Poor you. The worms will go in no time - I'd mention your fanjo at the same time though.

OhDearWormyGod · 10/02/2012 11:55

Oh our receptionists always want to know the ins and outs of the problem before they'll book your appointment. Next time I'll just ask what medical training they posess that they can possibly need to know. Still waiting for the doctor to call back so tbh I might just walk to the pharmacist and pick up whatever it is I need there. I promise I'll mention the fanjo thing to midwife on Monday, it isn't giving me any problems so I do think it's ok to wait til then. I've been thinking and if anything, there might be a bit of a waiting list to see a specialist if I need one, so in a way havng to give birth between then and now will make the wait seem less iyswim.

we've all had worms 3 times as a family.....and all cleared up ok. was breastfeeding 1st time and pharmacist refused to give me anything, doctor just got on and prescribed and cleared up ok (and washed all bedding etc).
also friend of mine had low grade prolapse identified after 2 children and gynaecologist advised that she would be better off having vagainal delivery with next baby . (so she got pregnant with twins and ended up with caesarian anyway)
