Just starting a new thread for Demolitionduo, Slinky, almostfifty, pilates brightness falls, squashed squirrel and all the other kind mumsnetters on our other thread, pasting my last post again and will link from the other thread -

Slinky I hope that you are OK, do you have much to prepare before you go in, or can you start to concentrate on you? I was so emotional, I couldn't even speak to anyone without welling up, think some of the school run mums will be very wary of me now!

This is me so far -

Emotions - I have had one bout of tears, from feeling overwhelmed from trying to do too much. A nurse told me that some days I would feel up to anything, and that i should 'potter' rather than stay in bed, but that other days I would feel not able to do anything. Its really true, except that I didn't really imagine what 'too much'meant. e.g. I can make a cup of tea, open the curtains, fetch the post - but if I do all three at once that's me exhausted for an hour. So iyswim I can DO more things than I thought I could, but manage LESS things than I thought I could.

Scar - took my dressing off today and put on a new one they gave me, scar seems fine, hiding underneath my belly overhang . Sometimes it feels like its getting loads better, then sometimes feels sore, I guess when I am moving around more.

Sleep - apart from the first night in hospital I have slept really well, especially last two nights - I think stress and fibroids have been affecting my sleep for a while. And I am positively luxuriating in not having to get out of bed in the morning (even to go for a wee, good riddance fibroids). Having an hours sleep in the day too. I recommend a V cushion, I got my old one out and its so comfy.

Pain - not too bad, taking pain killers less frequently now, haven't had too much wind (sorry tmi), although I understand this can get bad

Occupation - sadly have developed an aversion to daytime tv already, but watching some good taped things (The Mentalist today), and reading a bit. But happy not doing too much at all so far (OK AlmostFifty?? )

Dd's - I am hating not being on top of school trips/book bags/etc, but am learning to step back otherwise everyone turns to me to find things and I get stressed and emotional, if I leave them to it it all goes fine. DH is fab, despite still trying to get the kitchen fitted and go to work as well (he's had some days off and time off since I came out though). I am doing homework with them though, and card games and some other nice bits. And lots of tv. And trying not to be grumpy.

All in all not bad for week 1 - thanks for the support, it means a lot

How is everyone doing? Slinky you are very quiet so I hope that's because you are resting lots!

I've been back to my GP today & have been cleared to drive. It felt rather alien though when I went out briefly!

I've also been signed off for another month. I'll be climbing the walls by then, but I know I need to recover fully because once I'm back at work, there'll be no let up or concessions. I spend a lot of my time lugging heavy files & boxes so ultimately could do myself a mischief if I'm not well healed on the inside. I've just emailed my certificate to my boss & am awaiting his cold response!

I hope everyone else is making progress & feeling better day by day.

Hi demo - so glad you got signed off for a bit longer. I kind of feel like I am nearly there, in terms of going back to work, in that I know I could do it, but would end up exhausted. For some reason I have been in a spring cleaning mood this morning, so at least the bathrooms are nice and shiny.

Morning ladies!

Well...I am 25 days post-op! Not feeling too bad...but over the last 2 days, have been having more stomach/back pain....bit like I'm about to start my period...but that ain't gonna happen Grin!!

Saw the Consultant for a mini-check up, mainly to check on the haematoma. Bruising has gone down dramatically, and although the haematoma is still there, it has reduced in size quite nicely.

My sick note runs out on Sunday, so he wrote me another one out for another 4 weeks...taking me up to the 15 April which will be Week 8. Both him and the Physio are keen for me not to go back to work until at least Week 10, possibly 12 due to nature of my job. Have been given the OK to drive again...though haven't been out yet.

Feel very good in the mornings usually and go out for a walk. Cannot believe the tiredness that overwhelms me still late afternoon/early evening still...and usually have a little lie-down.

Going to GP this afternoon...booked appointment initially to get sick note, but she said to still come and see her anyway. The 3 solid weeks of strong anti-biotics have left me with thrush....oh joy!...finished them on Friday, DH got me oral Caneston (and all I've heard since is "£11...!! for one tablet!!!) which I took on Saturday and have been taking probiotics and eating loads of live yoghurt, but still hasn't improved. Havent used cream/pessaries as I'm not sure I can use them due to having the hysterectomy done vaginally....so checking with GP later.

All-in-all....progressing quite well I think..:) Hope you are all doing well too!

Demo...glad you got signed off again! I think it's important we all take the opportunity to recover fully...and not undo all the good work our surgeons have done and risk having more surgery later on.

Jiminy...goodness! Spring-cleaning!! You're very good :) Hope you're still resting in between though!

JiminyCricket · 24/03/2012 10:07

Good morning everyone - hope all your recoveries are going smoothly. I'm signing out of the thread now, but wanted to say a final huge thanks for your company along the way and all the lovely support. So, rest up and enjoy the sunshine :)

Jiminy...thank you so so much for all your kind words and support over the last 6 weeks! Hope you've continued to make a good recovery!

Went swimming yesterday for the first time since op....over the moon when I realised that I could swim every single day if I wanted...now we're no longer controlled by the "monthly...or for some of us...several times a month period"..:) :)

xx

Hi Ladies,

Great to hear positive stories. I too am feeling so much better as a result of the surgery.

I'm enjoying being more active & my energy levels are greatly improved.

Slinky, I hope you are well on the way to a full recovery too.

Thanks to all for your support.

Hi, great to hear everyone doing so well.
I will be 6 weeks post op soon but dont have a check up appointment till i'm 9 weeks post op. Feel i'm ready to drive again, did everyone else manage ok once they were on the road again?
Slinky.. you have given me the incentive to try swimming, wouldn't have thought about going to the pool for a long time otherwise! x
