I had one but it was very close to conception and I did not know I was pregnant at that time. No problems with pregnancy.

have you done a test yet, Miaou

Miaou · 24/01/2006 11:55

no, not yet

I'm going into town tomorrow or Thursday so will pick one up then.

I've got a really strong metallic taste in my mouth, and loads of extra saliva, both of which I tend to get when pg (never had them at any other time). Have sore boobs too but I think ds has a lot to do with that

any news?

I had my smear mid cycle early january then discovered I am pregnant two weeks later, I have received a letter today saying that I will have to have another one done, as the sample could not be read this is probably because of cell changes happening due to the pregnancy.

hellomama · 26/01/2006 20:05

Its not the issue that having the actual test is a problem when you are pregnant. As some people here rightly said, the cervix undergoes a lot of changes during pregnancy, and some normal cells could be misconstrued as being 'abnormal' due to these hormonal changes. Furthermore, if you really did have abnormal cells, it would not be possible to do the treatment during pregnancy, as that DOES interfere with the cervix, so is not done. Therefore, if you are due a smear (and are pregnant), it is always advisable to wait until after the birth, when a) it will be a more accurate interpretation of the cervical cells and b) if there are genuine abnormal cells, you can then get the treatment as soon as possible.

For the record, research has shown that actually having smear tests and infection screening tests performed (like Chlamydia etc) are not risky during pregnancy, so are nothing to worry about - just for those of you who have had it done and may be worrying.

Congrats miaow if you are pg BTW!

Oh hello, sorry I forgot about this thread

I did a test yesterday morning and it was a bfn; however it wasn't an "early" one (dh got the pack that was on offer ) and I think it may be just too early to tell.

Still got that metallic taste, extra saliva, sore boobs (but like I said, I blame ds for that ), have felt really tired today and a bit queasy - oh and my hips hurt. Just like when I was pg with ds!

I have kept my appointment with the gp tomorrow and will ask her to do a test before doing the smear if she thinks it's appropriate.

Will keep you informed!!

(I've been looking at double buggies on ebay )

What times your appointment, keeping fingers crossed.

Miaou · 27/01/2006 16:52

Thanks heavenis - gp did a pg test and it was negative, so I had my smear test (it was overdue anyway). However she did say that if I had a bfn on Wednesday then even if I was pg it probably wouldn't show up for another week, so maybe test again next week.

Still got this strong metallic taste in my mouth though - very annoying!!
