When I cough, something moves where it shouldn't!

I don't know much technical language, so bear with me (please). Since having DD, nothing has been in the right place down there. I'm not that bothered but, for example, when I poo, there is a time just before it comes out, where said article travels horizontally to its final destination, rather than vertically. This means that if it is a few small ones and not all decide to come out, I can actually feel the remaining ones & am sitting on them while they are still in me. I kind of push them back up out of the way & they settle in a niche inside me (that sounds gross, but the lump under the skin is protuding so I push the lump in, I don't mean I shove my finger up my a*@~!).
This has been so for a few years BUT at the moment I have a bad cough & walking DD to school I could feel bits of my body down there shifting about, until I could feel something pushing down so it was falling into the cavity(?) leading to my vagina, like a huge bulge. It was very uncomfortable, especially as I still had a 20 minute walk like this. When I got home I had to shove it all back in place (this time putting my finger into me and pushing the *wall back to a wall position, rather than a bulge.
Does this badly described 'condition' sound like piles, which I thought initially, or a prolapse of some kind, or something else?
All thoughts appreciated. x

Sounds like a prolapse to me. Speak to the GP, its fixable.

Leax · 07/02/2012 09:39

This sounds like a rectocele which is a prolapse as Pascha said. The vagina and rectum are separated by fascial tissue. Tears in this tissue causes the rectum to bulge into the vagina, particularly when the rectum has stool in it.

Thanks for such quick response. Presumably it's worth seeing my GP about?

You really don't have to put up with it. Many women do, but there are exercises and a common operation if necessary.

Yes. They are usually managed conservatively unless the symptoms are severe enough to warrant surgery. Having to splint the vaginal wall to defaecate and feeling something protruding when walking I would consider significant quality of life affecting symptoms. In addition to a consultant referral I'd really recommend going to a good pelvic physio, try to find out if there is someone recommended in your area. A good physio can help improve your defaecation dynamics and reduce or remove the bulging to varying degrees, not by fixing the tear but by helping the pelvic floor to operate properly and releasing trigger points in the tissues. I would find out your specific situation, get your surgical options and firstly before making any decisions about surgery do a course of pelvic physio. It's 1.5 years since mine became very symptomatic and I now know for sure I will go for the surgery, am waiting for a consultation with a particular surgeon at the moment.

Hi Ladies, I've just been to the dr, who has referred me to a gynae for surgery as it is a prolapsed vaginal wall. Thanks for the great advice.
