Skin biopsy on face, helpl!

Saw GP just 10 days ago and consultant at the hospital today. Have been told I need a biopsy of a sun spot just below my eye and have been put on fast track list.

Is this normal to be seen so quickly
How badly will it scar (I'd rather be alive with a scar)
How long does it take to heal
What else should I know?

I left the appointment in a bit of a blur, I expected her to tell me I was wasting their time just being there
Thank you for any help

I had a keratosis removed some years ago. Some scarring, but nothing to write home about, and much easier to cover with foundation (if I can be bothered) than the horrible brown scaly thing that was there before.

I should think with a biopsy the scarring would be even less obvious than mine and it should heal pretty quickly, quicker if you keep your Vit C intake up.

Good luck.

Thank you for your post RockinD, I too am hoping it will be coverable with normal make up.

Started googling, never a good thing as it looks like a Melanoma :(

rule #1 - NEVER google. Disastrous, v bad for your nerves, and chances are you'll be completely wrong.
Small biopsy under local anaesthetic, it's not unusual to be seen that quickly, and anything odd lesion-wise the sooner the better (reassuring given the increase, remember many +50yo adults were the sun worshippers of the 70's when there was very little effective sunscreen available...I can remember basting my skin with baby oil :( I now have two suspected BCC's).
Might be taken as a 'punch biopsy' - maybe 4 mm circle of tissue going through all the layers of skin, may have a stitch or two to close the wound.
Scarring and healing depends on many factors; wound site, your age, if you smoke, skin type etc etc, ask your consultant.
Result time for specimen varies.

Failed at the first hurdle Grin

Thanks for the info, I'll ask when I go in

My mum covered me in sun screen and a t shirt when everyone else was running on the beach with blisters. Shows you can never be too careful, the 70s were good for oil and butter, my step siter covered herself in it!
