For a few years now Ive had a problem with bright lights - they make me feel disoriented and not conducive to computer work - also feel the same in sports hall or supermarket.

Ive just moved office and the new office is brightly lit - its causing me no end of problems. Have got tinted glasses and have asked to move near to window.

Also went to gp but she didn't seem to be aware of any medical reason.

It would be great to hear from others who have similar and what it was or what they have done about it.

Me too. I took some bulbs out from over my desk and that helped (cant move anywhere else and no natural light). Some days are worse than others but when its very bad I get a migrane and feel like my whole head and shoulders are 'vibrating'. Thought it was just me but have since found quite a few others affected. Only started affecting me in last couple of years - I am 43. Also, seems much worse around menstruation :(

It's simply explained as a sensitivity to flourescent light. It can be likened to a sensitivity to noise eg my dh can't stand a ticking clock in the bedroom; he has to get up and remove it elsewhere. Whereas this sound doesn't bother me. I on the other hand have a very sensitive nose and can smell odours that others don't! Basically some people are more sensitive to certain stimuli than others.

My daughter was diagnosed by the GP as being sensitive to flourescent lights about 10 years ago.Her small village school even changed their lighting as it was causing her eye problems. We were fortunate, as the subject was in the news occasionally from time to time. Havent really heard about it much since then.

I am having problems with strip lighting also. I feel like my brain is being fried and also get totally confused and incoherent. after sitting in a room full of strip lights for 5 hours i got a vertigo (spinning) attack. Today i was feeling very confused at home and then i turned off my strip light in the kitchen and the confusion went!! I also have sensitivity to perfume and cleaning stuff....we are sensitive things x
