HI IVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH INTUSSUSCEPTION AND PERINEAL DESCENT SYNDROME. HAS ANY1 HAD THE STARR SURGERY? IF SO WOT PART DO THEY STAPLE?
EVEN THOUGH I BEEN DIAGNOSED WIV PDS, THIS IS PART OF PELVIC FLOOR, EVEN THOUGH THE PROCTOGRAM TEST SHOWED PELVIC FLOOR, THE GYNIE I SAW TOLD ME THAT MY MUSCLES ARE STRONG , NO SIGN OF A VAGINAL RECTOCELE, NO BLADDER PROBS NOR WOMB PROLAPSE, ONLY EVACUATION PROBS. MY COLOCTRAL SURGEON SUGGESTED STARR BUT IVE READ ABOUT IT AND THATS FOR PFD. HE IGNORED THE INTUSSUSCEPTION AND IM SURE THATS THE PROBLEM. ITS ONLY MINOR SURGERY FOR THAT. STARR IS A NEW PROCDURE AND PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD IT DONE REGRET IT, THERE ALL IN SEVERE PAIN AND GOING TOILET 10/20 TIMES A DAY! IM GOING TO ASK MY GP TO REFER ME FOR A CT SCAN FOR THE INTUSSUSCEPTION AS MY C. CONSULTANT HASNT REFERRED ME FOR ANY ABS XRAYS. HE IS DRIVING ME MAD.
IVE READ THAT IF THERES ANOTHER UNDERLYING PROBLEM WITH A EVACUATION PROBLEM THEM SURGERY FOR THE PELVIC FLOOR WONT WORK. AND THE PROBLEM COULD BE INTUSSUSCEPTION-- WHICH IS A VERY RARE THING TO HAVE IN ADULTS, COMMON WITH BABIES TILL AGED 2YRS.
INTUSSUSCEPTION IS WHERE THE BOWEL FOLDS BACK ONTO ITS SELF AND MINOR SURGERY CORRECTS THIS.
DOES ANY1 OUT THERE HAVE INTUSSUSCEPTION?

Hi whiffy
I am 58 years old and was having evacuation problems together with a uterine prolapse for many year. 18 months ago a colorectal surgeon diagnosed an intussusception and a rectocele by sending me for a proctogramme. 15 months ago I had an operation - resection rectopexy - to fix the intussusception. My colorectal surgeon decided to do nothing about the rectocele at that time. The resection rectopexy is considered a fairly major operation but it did fix my intussusception. However, post op I was having a feeling of discomfort in my rectum which I did not have before surgery and more bowel movements than before. Ten months post op another proctogramme was done and my colorec adivsed me that I required the starr procedure as my rectocele appears to have got worse and could be fixed with starr. A second colorec advised me against having starr, as he said it would be a radical step to take and the consequences of it not working for me would be major - I have been told that urine retention and fecal incontinence are some of the things that can go wrong. I have decided against any further surgery atleast for the present. A resection rectopexy and six weeks later a hysterectomy was a lot to cope with last year.

Just thought I should share my experience with you - hope it helps, and hope you find the help and answers you need from your doctors.
