Dandruff - any cures out there?

I know it's not a serious problem, but my dandruff is driving me to distraction. I've always had quite a dry scalp but it used to be a case of just a few dust-like spots in my hair that weren't easy for others to see. Now I seem to have proper full-on flakes of dandruff that are quite visible. I can't wear my hair down because it's so obvious and it falls down my hair Blush

I'm currently using TGel for sensitive scalps; it says it works from the first wash but so far I've seen no improvement. I've tried many other anti-dandruff shampoos too.

Anyone know of any cures

I used the normal T-Gel to help me last year, and it did improve after a week of using the shampoo, 3 times a week. I have cut it down to once a week using the T-Gel and the rest of the time I use one for sensitive scalps, by L'Occitane.

Good luck, I know how awful it can be having noticeable dandruff - last year my scalp had a massively bad reaction to Pantene, of all things. I had large flakes, loads of dry patches on my scalp with itching and large patches of build up that then flaked off - boak! I ended up putting my hair in a pony tail for 10 months but even then was very noticable above my ears and at my centre parting. It was making me very sad and stressed out, which didn't help either. It lasted for nearly a year and T-Gel was the thing that finally sorted it out, but not the sensitive one, the full strength one.

If you've always had it, I wonder if it could be an allergy? Try going sulfate and silicone free. I always had dry scalp/dandruff. It disappeared when I started using the curly girl method- no sulfates, no silicones, wash with conditioner most of the week, and only shampoo once a week.

Thanks. I'll get some full-strength T-gel and see if that's any better.

I've never thought about allergies; I suppose it's a possibility. I have dry skin all over my body so I just thought it was related to that. If I wear a black vest it's covered in skin at the back by the end of the day. Horrible. I need a whole body exfoliation and moisturisation!

My regular hairdresser used to point out my dry scalp every single time I saw her, like she was telling me something I didn't know. It really irritated me. Now I have a slight phobia of going to the hairdresser. I don't go to that one anymore because she always messed my hair up, and I really don't want to subject someone new to my flakes Sad. It's been 17 months since my last haircut!

L'Oreal Elvive anti-dandruff (navy and orange bottle) is the only product that has ever helped my dandruff. I saw results really quickly. It's inexpensive so worth a try if you haven't already. It's bit pongy but I've got used to it. Good luck, it's so annoying isn't it.

Alphosil - you can get it on prescription or from the chemist - and remember to rinse well.

I had a terrible dandruff problem for years...prescription shampoos didn't really work. I blamed it on the hair dye I used...turns out I'm allergic to ingredients in shampoo. I saw Philip Kingsley itchy scalp shampoo on the mums net recommends list...saw it on amazon, not cheap for 250ml. Bought some and my scalp problems were solved within 2 washes. I now only use his shampoo (buy in big 1 litre bottles) it is amazing...my scalp is 100% clear...my hairdresser couldn't believe the difference either. Buy some...it will change your life ( I wish I had posted my scalp issues on here years ago...someone might have been able to help) I've tried all of the above but thru didn't work for me... Good luck!

I had 6 months of misery with my scalp last year. Itchy, big crusts falling out, wore pale clothing, had to check every time I left soft furnishings etc. Tried everything, doctor unsympathetic. The very unglamorous Nizoral was the only thing that made any impact. Sadly it may just be a case of trying lots of different shampoos. You really do have my sympathy.

T gel worked for me but not from first wash. I use it 3 times a week and it took abt a week to feel better

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 05/02/2012 10:03

This has reminded me of the stuff that's worked for me in the past (Nizoral) - been racking my brains trying to remember, as my itching seems to be threatening to come back. Might give the Philip Kingsley a try as well.

SELENIUM! It's magic. Elvive intensive has active selenium or u can get SELSUN which is pure selenium.
