Ear Infection - going on so long...

My dd (8 months) has been in and out of pain with an ear infection for nearly a month now. She had teething, a cold and other infections for a while but all else has cleared up except for the damn ears. She has good days and then bad ones, on the good days I'm convinced it's gone away but then at 3am she'll cry her little heart out. Been to the docs so often, the last time she decided not to give another antibiotic as last time she ended up so poorly from it it was worse than the earache!

Just wondering if anyone knows if I should be worried about this going on so long and should I insist on an antibiotic?

Can't help you but {{{hugs}}} and sympathy for you an your little one

Do you see the same doctor every time you go? perhaps a referral to a consultant would be in order if this keeps going on and on... Go on, get bossy with the 'professionals'! If you're not happy you've got every right to

Hello, sadeyedlady - love your posting name, btw. I went on your teeth grinding thread and suggested cranio-sacral therapy, but it was late at night and I got the name wrong - I meant cranial osteopathy (although they may be the same thing, I can't remember!). Thing is, I would always recommend cranial osteopathy for ear infections - it definitely helps; and I'm pretty sure it would help with teeth grinding too. It's not a big deal - one or two appointments, maybe; treatment consists of ultra-gentle massage-type manipulation of the head. There are quite a lot of threads on the merits of cranial osteopathy on here, plus the counter view from sceptics, if you search the archives. It does cost a bit. I had both my kids seen by a cranial osteopath because my sister's child had very severe ear infections and ongoing problems into adulthood.

Here's one thread, for example. But there's loads more if you search under Health in the archives.

Thanks Fauve, I will definately keep it in mind. Is is a private procedure or would I see a dentist to organise it?

You wouldn't normally do it through a dentist, although my dentist is certainly a big fan (he had to remove several of my fillings as I ground them into pieces...) It's private, like booking a massage - and in fact, like massage, it's very relaxing and can't do any harm. Hardened cynics might say you're throwing your money away, but there are lots of us who've seen good results from it, as you'll see from the archive threads. My kids had it as a preventative measure and have never had an ear infection.

This is a link to the osteopathic practice I used, but if you ring them I expect they can give you the details of a cranial osteopath near you. You could ask to speak to Melinda, who is lovely.

it sounds like your lo has glue ear which would explain the recurrent ear infections, i have heard that crani-oesteopathy is very beneficial.
