Indent in breast?

mumofjust1 · 02/02/2012 17:48

I have a dimple, maybe more like a slight indentation on my breast when I bend over and flex my muscles, more so when I lean on my arm on a table. I do not have the change when I look in the mirror with hands above head or while hands are on hips.

Should I see the Dr?

Its probably nothing, but you should always get any changes to your breasts checked out to be safe.

I seem to remember some literature from the Docs saying you should get dimples checked as well as lumps or any puckering. The majority of things turn out to be nothing but I think you should see the doc. Sorry. Good luck.

OneHandWavingFree · 02/02/2012 17:55

Good advice, given twice :)

As lissielou said, but you should definitely get it checked if only to put your mind at rest.

It probably is fine, but wouldn't you feel so much better knowing that for sure?

You will not regret having it checked. Either you'll be very relieved, or you'll be glad you didn't let it go any further.

Wishing you well.

but

Beamur · 02/02/2012 17:57

Yes, get it checked immediately.

JuliaScurr · 02/02/2012 17:57

YY see the gp

topsyturner · 02/02/2012 18:00

Yep , another one for get it checked .

mumofjust1 · 02/02/2012 18:05

Thanks ladies, will give the Gp a ring in the morning. Typically, they close at 1pm on Thursdays Hmm

I have googled it and seen pictures of indents in the breast, but it doesn't look like any of them. It's my right breast, about 2 inches left of the nipple. As I say it appears when I'm leaning forward with my arm on the dresser, and gets worse when I tense, as the breast lifts. I have large heavy breasts and just put it down to that. The other breast is similar but not an indent as such.

Will let u know how I get on x

Now totally obsessed with my breasts Sad

I checked again when I got changed and have noticed that I get the same indent St the bottom of each breast when I put my hands in my hips and kind of "tense" my boobs.

Does anyone else get this?

OP posts:
carrotsandcelery · 02/02/2012 20:48

If it is matching on either side then it is less likely to be anything scary. I would still definitely get checked out though.

Beamur · 02/02/2012 22:10

It might be nothing at all, but an indent is one of the signs to look out for changes to your boobs. The fact you have a matching pair could just be a muscle pulling under the skin (and nothing nasty), but always worth a second opinion. Don't panic (too much).
I had a lump checked out last year and whilst I was trying to feel calm, inside I was planning my funeral! This is despite, or maybe because of, my Mum has had breast cancer - but that was a decade ago and she is still alive and well.

mumofjust1 · 02/02/2012 22:12

Thanks Beamer - hopefully it is just muscle.

I've already decided on a double mastectomy....... Sad

It is awful isn't it - there's lots of fab, positive advice and stories, yet it's so easy to look on the not so bright side.
I found a little painful lump, prodded it endlessly for days, got the first doctors appointment I could and a speedy hospital referral, yet still spent the time pondering on my imminent demise!
Despite the fact that my own Mum has had moderately aggressive cancer which responded completely to treatment and has never returned. I'll try a Grin

Hello ladies and thanks for the reassurances Smile

I was up half the night worrying myself silly over this. Called the GP this morning and she called me back within the hour.

I explained what was happening and she said that the fact that I have to do something (flex my chest muscles) to make the dent appear, and even when flexed it only appears in one position is very reassuring.

She said that an indent that was cause for concern would be visible all the time, regardless on what position I was in etc. She also said that symptoms of a dent that is worrisome would be associated with a lump, which (thank God, touch wood) I don't have.

She said that purely to reassure me, she will see me next Friday.

So, there you go. She doesn't seem to think that there is anything to be concerned about. Let's see what happens next week.

Thanks again Smile

Thanks for updating, I was hoping you'd get some reassurance soon :)

Glad to know that she's given you plenty of information to put your mind at rest between now and next Friday, but that she's also taking your concerns seriously enough to see you (and the dent) in person.

Well done for calling - I know that it's not easy to do.

carrotsandcelery · 03/02/2012 18:36

She sounds like a great doctor and a very sensible one. It sounds like she knows nothing is wrong but is making sure you know it too and doing everything she can to prove it to you.

I am so glad you acted quickly and got reassurance quickly. Smile

Beamur · 03/02/2012 19:50

That's good news. I didn't want to say before, but my Mums cancer started with a dent - but it was there all the time, she didn't feel a lump to start with either though, but one did appear after a couple of weeks.

desparateforpom · 02/07/2016 01:56

i know this tread has been years but i am hoping desparately that you would get back to me or someone who experience the same thing. i exactly have the same thing going on when i flex my muscle my left lower breast dent/or dimple in slightly but when i flex harder it gets worse on when i flex nothing on my skin or lump (thank god. touch wood) so almost the same and the other breast have slightly dents also when i flex but not on exact same place as my left breast. my quiestion for you. have you seen anything more except for the dent/dimple how are you doing? pls let me know i am desparately need some answer i been reading your post several time over and over agaon. thnak you

Every breast is different. You'd do far better to go and get checked out by a doctor than ask someone on here.

Do what the OP did and get an appointment with your GP.

Her experience is not necessarily going to be the same as yours.

If you have problems getting a GP appointment then contact the Breast Care Nurse at your local hospital for advice/reassurance. Mumsnet is not an alternative for qualified medical advice.

I hope things work out well for you Flowers

desparateforpom · 02/07/2016 04:51

fanjo and kiss thank you for the reply. i have seen my NP as my GP wasnt available. she check manually thoroughly and didnt feel anything concerning and she did say that it could be a lot of reason specially that i am morbidly obese.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 02/07/2016 06:06

Flowers I would be very reassured by that.

KissMyArse · 02/07/2016 09:46

Same as fanjo, I would be very reassured too. GP/NP's take worries of this kind very seriously so if they have done a thorough check I would try to put your mind at rest Flowers
