Anyone had a prolapse repair with mesh - want to tell me about it ????

Hi - my elderly mum has a 3rd degree prolapse and the GP has said it may be fixable with mesh. How does this work ? Apparently a ring pessary won't be sufficient. Can the mesh be fitted with a local anaesthetic ? We have got a referral to the gyneacologist but not sure what to expect.

TIA

Hi thanks - will have a look. Mum has now had a Gelhorn pessary fitted which she says makes things feel better but there are still some continence ishoos. however it is early days so will see how she gets on - don't think a general anaesthetic is an option.

mum has had a mesh, it has changed her life "quote"
she was in sjuch a pickle that she was getting vaginal ulcers.
She is no longer incontinent and she is starting to build her muscle strength.
It has been nearly a year since the op and has totally been worth it.

oh and as for how does it work.. it was described to us as a hammock that is looped under her uterus and bladder and lifted it all back up out of the way

Hi - did she have the op under general anaesthetic ?? Mum is 84 and with some heart problems so a GA is not really an option and the doctor last week said she didn't think mesh was necessary but I am concerned about the incontinence

she did have to have a GA, she has a heart arythmia (sp??) and they managed to work round that for the GA.

I wish your mum well, it has changed mum so much for the better.

Hi thanks again - mum also has heart arythmia (not sure how to spell it either!) - will see how she gets on with the pessary. She does say things feel better now but she is still not going to the loo much in the day - but I think that could also be because she doesn't drink as much as she should.

Hi readsalotgirl

I had a prolift transvaginal mesh total repair done on the 12th dec and despite all the bad publicity around mesh I am delighted to say my op has been very successful. I had a GA but there were older ladies who had similiar ops done but had spinal anaesthetic rather than a GA .

Hello all.
Maisied 1959 Could you tell me where you had the Prolift done and and who placed it? I am thinking of getting the procedure done and am desperate to find who does them and would rather go on a recommodation! I live in London but would be prepared to travel up to 2 hours away.
If anyone else has had a Prolift procedure and can let me know the surgeons details it would be much appreciated. If anyone has had a bad experience I would be interested in hearing about those too).
thx so much

I had it done 3 years ago when i was 40. It helped my stress incontinence completely but it made my urge continence slightly worse. it was worth it though because it cured my prolapse.

Im having major gynae problems atm( (waiting for a hysterectomy) but the mesh has still held my bladder in place pretty well.
