Torn calf muscle - terible muscle cramps at night - any experience?

I did this a week ago and still not much better - my basic question is anyone who's had this, how long before you stopped getting terrible crapms all night?

I have 3dc and am getting hardly any sleep.

(Have seen dr, got physio referral and taking ibuprofen)

I don't remember cramps at night (it was about six years ago) but it took two weeks to be able to walk anything near normally, and another month or so to feel that it was properly mended. Horrible injury, I've never played tennis since! Though I do sometimes feel glad I didn't snap my Achilles as that is really horrendous.

Ok, thanks Amaris that's helpful.

God this is a nightmare!!! Don't mention the Z word to me..... (zumba....)

The coach in my tennis lesson said "oh yes, we've had lots of torn calf muscles recently" - so why didn't she warm us up properly then? Also the doctor said it was a very common injury in middle aged women Hmm. I've always made sure I do lots of stretching my calves now before / after exercise! It was the not being able to drive that I found most annoying.

My husband's physio said he's seeing lots of Zumba injuries... Again - why not getting people to warm up properly... Is so flipping easy to do but so hard to recover from. Sad

I guess I have to accept at 37 I'm now middle aged???!!!!

Yeah, I was about 37 too when I did mine, which I thought was way too young to be called middle aged. And apparently a lot of the injuries are from women's calf muscles shortening because of high heels, and I never wear high heels. Still, not as bad as a nurse telling me I would be starting my menopause soon when I was 34!!

Be grateful it wasn't your achilles - am 5 months post tearing mine and still walk 'odd'.

Rest and hope your get your physio appointment asap AND then do the exercises.

My physio also commented he'd seen more Zumba injuries than he'd have liked - thinks there are too many poor instructors :(

Amaris - Menopause soon at 34!! What is it with these health "professionals"?!

This is a wake-up call to me to accept my age though Sad

Zippy - that sounds terrible, poor you Sad thanks for the advice re physio - have recentlly had physio for my back and have religiously done my exercises!

Re the zumba, in hindsight the instructor, althougha great dancer and really good at it, just did not spend any time on warm up. I feel so so stupid for not realising the danger... hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I think I could cope with it a lot better if it wasn't for the agony all night - I've been on about 2 hours sleep for nearly a week, with 3 young kids including a baby who still has night feeds it is pretty hard. Ah well, must get better soon....
