For ages there has always been 'something' wrong that I can't put my finger on to do with my digestion and general sluggishness.

Now at 20 weeks pregnant it is in the extreme and my mw has suggested I cut out wheat for a month and see if things improve.

I don't even really know what wheat is, let alone what it is in. Would cutting out things like bread and pasta etc help even if I am unwittingly eating it in other ways that I don't know about?

Can anyone give me any clues as to how to go about it?

Many tia

OP - have you had a blood test for coeliac disease? I have recently been reading up about this (my son is newly diagnosed) and I noticed that pregnancy & childbirth can be a trigger for coeliacs who haven't had symptoms before to begin getting symptoms.

For the blood test to work, you have to still be eating gluten (the protein within wheat, rye & barley products) so perhaps ask your GP for a blood test now?

Starlight I used to feel like you every day from the age of about 13. Ate breakfast because I was told to, then felt sick, tired, bloated, farty and revolting for 2 hours. At 30, I had a colonic irrigation to try to shift the last 2lbs before my wedding. The therapist looked at the contents of my gut and suggested I had a wheat intolerance.

I just cut wheat bread out of my diet, and reduced pasta meals to once a week. The difference was amazing! No bloating or sickness on my honeymoon Smile

15 years later and I still watch my bread and pasta intake. I have oatbran porridge in the morning and it keeps me going til 1pm. I do think you can get scared of eating because of feeling sick. Try a wheat-free day for a few days and if you feel better, then yay! I love German rye bread (the really dark stuff) with some nutty cheese, tomato chutney and some salad leaves. Brilliant lunchtime sarnie

Good luck!

tardis is right both DH and I are wheat free not gluten free and it improves our moods (terrible tiredness) and digestion immediately esp. his mood Grin. You can buy lovely wheat free bread e.g. Spelt and rye flour in Waitrose also Health food shops and sainsbos sell rye bread. IIWY I'd try that way first and if you're still feeling grot look at gluten free and like O.Ps said and DO try to eat breakfast.
