Well the long and short of it is that after researching this condition I absolutely and completely believe I have it. If anyone has heard of this condition and knows something about it it would be fantastic to hear from you.

I have joined every group you can think of that concerns this condition however everyone seems to come from America and some advice from someone in the UK would be good Smile, I'm trying to gather some more information before I go to my GP. My coping mechanisms at the moment include self harm so I want to stop that.

Ah I dunno maybe too much info, sorry for rambling.

I've never heard of it sorry, what is it? Hope you get some support or advice soon Smile

Hello, I feel your pain. Have a list of phobias, eating noises, snoring, licking fingers to turn pages (have to look away), coughing. All sorts of things. I have read the misphonia site too and now know that I'm not alone. I have never been to the doctors about it though. Will you let me know how you get on.

frownieface · 31/01/2012 19:07

adamschic I will do.

Ihatecbeebies, it's not a well known condition however it seems to be neurological, it's where you feel complete panic/rage/fear on hearing common everyday sounds such as the sounds of eating, whistling, gum chewing. It is awful to have.

I have never heard of misophonia but I suffered from anxiety and used to really struggle listening to the washing machine final spin.. that is a really weird thing to write down but it used to make me feel really panicked and weird. The machines at work used to make me feel ill!

It disappeared completely when I got on top of the anxiety (counselling and sertraline)

Are you generally anxious frownie ?

frownieface · 01/02/2012 14:08

No, no anxiety Methe, it's something that I have realised that I have had since I was about 6 years old. I am just really sensitive to everyday sounds, so If someone was sat next me me chewing gum I would have to leave the room because I would be agitated and feel rage, if I couldn't leave the room then I would internalise the feeling and possibly bite my hand/finger to cope.

I don't have anxiety either. I've suffered from this from the age of about 10 iirc. My way of coping at work, as I sit in an office with a few other people, is to plug ear phones into my phone and listen to the radio. If I couldn't do this I would be in the loos crying.
