If this is NHS and you have had the scans which is how they know the cysts are over 5cms, the consultant will probably just have a chat with you, go over your history and discuss your options.
When you get there the nurse will weigh you etc (I think they do that to keep you busy while you wait!!) and then you sit and wait your turn. Sometimes there is a nurse in there with you.
The consultant will ask you all about gynae history and other medical history, be prepared with dates of periods and history of that kind of stuff and also have a list of medication with you. He will ask you about any pain and abnormal bleeding.
There may be a nurse in there too and he may well examine inside and out (they are very good and it doesnt usually hurt). If he feels it necessary he may order further ultrasound and perhaps blood test unless they are up to date.
Then he will discuss options, i.e. watch and wait depending on size and cyst type and your pain level or whip them out.
Now before I get flamed I say 'he' above because I had two removed last year by a 'he' who was fab and I know have another and am seeing him again. Previously I had a 'she' who was also excellent and removed one. So I am now on my fourth and am very relaxed about them. Mine are dermoids so they are removed each time as docs dont like dermoids. Other types can be watched sometimes so see what your doc suggests?
To reassure you, the appointment will be fine, ask them anything, however trivial you think it may seem to them.
By the way despite all my surgeries and cyst removals apparently both my ovaries are still fully functioning. They just keep making cysts!
Good luck.
