Paranoid (probably) about DVT/clot following c-section

I had a c-section about 10 days ago and am generally recovering well subject to the usual aches and pains.

But I have a funny sensation in my left forearm: on the soft side, about an inch down from elbow level. Doesn't hurt, nothing red or tender or warm to the touch. It is like there's an itchy bit inside my arm which sort of tingles and has for a few days.

I've had blood thinning injections for a week following the op, and no reason to think it is a clot but I can't quite get the idea out of my mind.

Does it sound DVT-like? Am I being a loon?

Doesn't sound like a clot at all by the position and also because you had the blood thinning stuff to protect you against clots. Did you have a drip? Could it be from that?

BeeBread · 28/01/2012 22:08

Thanks Bonnie. I did have a drip but via a cannula on my wrist. It was that arm though - does that sound a possibility?

Don't know. did you have antibiotics put in the drip?

BeeBread · 28/01/2012 23:13

Yes, I did...

DVT in arm very unusual unless predisposition to clot. You had a LOT of anti-coagulation much more than is normal. I assume you were bed-bound for some reason? Symptoms aren't DVT -like. More likely in the arm is thrombophlebitis but doesn;t sound like that either.

Hi Wobbly

I don't know the reason for the anti-coagulants (Clexane?); I'd thought they were standard.

I was up on my feet the morning after the op and back home after two days, and I've been up and about in a gentle way (but including trips to the park/cafe/corner shop etc) ever since. I don't know why I'd need more than usual?

Very odd . I've had 2 c-sections and never had anticoags for either. Up and out of bed night of op with both. Very prolonged IMO . Makes DVT very unlikely and arm DVT very very unlikely.

I had 5 days of injections when I had my c.s and I was up too on the first day. I wondered if it was because I was older but maybe not. I think it is perhaps more to do with different doctors/ anaesthetists having different views.

gigglepin · 30/01/2012 14:52

Can i ask if you had a "drip" type canula in that arm for the cs?

gigglepin · 30/01/2012 14:54

DOH!! Sorry just looked back through your posts! You DID have a drip in that arm.
sorry!
I had bruising the other side of my arm from my drip thats all, took a couple of weeks to go and felt funny.

Jacksterbear · 30/01/2012 15:02

When I had my last CS the person putting the drip in the back of my hand caught a nerve with the needle at the first attempt; for weeks afterwards I had a weird tingling sensation from my wrist up into my finger as a result. However that was in the exact place the needle had gone in and caught the nerve, whereas yours is on the inside of your arm; not sure if my story is of any relevance at all therefore, but mentioning it just in case!

Gigglepin - not because you were older - I was late thirties with my two. Likely policy in certain hospital but IMO definitely over-treatment. Doesn't help with the arm thingy though.
