Pain in back of ribcage when inhaling. Pregnancy or illness?

Blimey we're going through it here. Ds (3) is ridiculously poorly, threw up all over his bed this morning after an illness that has lasted months and been diagnosed variously as a virus, a chest infection and a 'just don't know' Hmm. I took him back to the doctors this morning who are going to take a urine sample and then a blood sample if nothing shows up. He's lost weight and is just pale and miserable. But we were there so long I forgot to even get myself seen to. I'm 32 weeks pg and have been feelign physically fine up til the last day or two. I had my tonsils taken out a few years ago but feel just like I would if I had tonsillitus, I have a sore throat and just ache all over. When I breathe in the back of my ribcage hurts to the extent that I can't take a deep breath as it's too uncomfortable. I feel quite breathless too which I haven't for a few weeks as the baby is already very low and head down. Is this just a pregnancy thing or do I need to get this seen to??

I really would call the doctor and try and be seen today - that sounds very much like the symptoms a work colleague had who had pleurisy.

If your surgery is not amenable, call NHS direct 0845 4647 and by going through and speaking to a nurse on the phone, they normally would say o go to an out of hours doctor and would make the appointment for you (in my experience).

You certainly need to be looked at. Take care.

Oh bloody hell. Thanks getorf. Will consult dr google, scare myself undoubtedly shitless and get onto my surgery.

NO don't worry (really guilty now that I have pancked a pregnant woman).

My colleague was fine, she just had to have antibiotics and some painkillers (nowt stringer than oaracetomol and ibuprofen though). It was nothing too hairy, plus I am not a doctor and could well be wrong.

But you do need to see someone, don't wait until Monday.

You haven't panicked me getorf, worry not. I have become almost resigned to living in a house where every bloody person is permanently ill. I could have cried this morning when I thought ds could finally go back to preschool only to find him covered in vomit, poor thing. I'll wait for dp to get here and then call the out of hours doctor for advice.

I was also going to say pleurisy. Had it years ago.
I'd get yourself checked out for sure.
Hope you get better soon.

Sympathies - here it's not sick with ds, but the runs (can't remember how to spell diarrhea!!)

GetOrfMoiiLand · 27/01/2012 21:15

I hope you managed to get it sorted.

Sorry also about your son - that sounds terrible, poor lad.

Just back from the hospital after an agonizing night. Tbh I should have gone in last night, the pain was awful. They dont think pleurisy but my pulse was through the roof as was my temperature. They've given me painkillers and taken blood and I have to wait for them to call me back. They kept talking about the possibility of a clot on the lung which freaked me out a little but apparently they'll know more from the blood results.

How scary for you. What kind of injections do you have to have? Is ds any better today? You are having a very trying time, poor you.
