My lovely-mother-in-law's bloody bastard cancer has come back.

That's it really. Am gutted. For her, her dh, my dh and bil. And my dds, although they're a bit young to understand.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer a year and a half ago. She had surgery and lots of treatment. She finished the last lot of Herceptin in November and by December had a painful bad back. Her doctor sent her last week for an MRI 'just in case' and the cancer is back.

I lost my dad to cancer ten years ago, and then my mum to the same cancers as Mil. How do I look Mil in the eye and say 'you'll be fine' etc when she knows that I'm thinking that she might not be? What help am I?

She's such a trooper and refuses to let it stop her but she must be scared. I wish I could do something. My dds never even met my mum and now they could lose the nanny that they absolutely adore.

Feel useless. Just needed to vent. Dont know what else to think right now. Thanks for reading.

So sorry to read this. It goes without saying that I hope to God she beats it, but your love for her shines out and THAT'S what help you are to her. Thinking of you, MrsJB, do let us know how she gets on.

MrsJasonBourne · 26/01/2012 23:19

That's so kind of you, thank you. Smile

When we get a bit more info and get our heads round it a little better I'll come back and let you know.

MrsJB so sorry to hear about this - it's very hard for all of you. If you need some hand holding and maybe some advice from people dealing with bc skip on over to the tamoxifen thread, you'd be very welcome.

That's so sad. That it's come back so quickly too. You're right to vent. Cancer's a bastard disease and it's never fair. Hope there's some light amidst it all for her somewhere. Sounds like it's in her bones and if so there's a fair amount they can do. Still awful though. Sad

Thank you all so much for posting and I will look at the tamoxifen thread.

At the moment it is in her sacrum, which is the bit in between the spine and the pelvis. She's booked in for some radiotherapy. Obviously we're all worried about it spreading, particularly up her spine, and we're crossing everything that the radiotherapy works.

Will see how it goes.
