Knee Problems that are invisible and a bit random - would you see a GP?

Kind of a pointless question, since I?ve got an appointment today anyway. I figure at least I can have a chat about it and it will be logged.

I?ve been having on-and-off knee pain for a while now. The thing is, there's nothing to see. Its just pain. Like a throbbing ache, only in my right knee. Its not bad usually - I'd say 5/10 and is soothed a bit with heat application. A couple of times its been more of a 7 and has really bothered me.

Mostly happens when its cold/damp, but happened the other day when it was neither. I?d say its definately linked to the environment though as I don?t get it in the warm (warm weather that is ? I still get it in a centrally heated house when its cold outside)

Does that sound familiar? Is she likely to just say go home and carry on applying heat when you need to?

thanks

This might sound a bit odd but are you Symmetrical? One of my friends is very slightly out of balance (one leg very slightly set differently to the other). On the advice of her physio she got insoles with arch support to make sure her posture was alligned.
She had pain in her knee and lower back but with the insoles and the exercises it got a lot better over 3-4 weeks. She says she notices a difference now if she doesn't use them when she exercises.
It might be worth asking about it. i think you could get them on the NHS if it would help you.

Thats interesting - not something I'd have ever thought of! I had an x-ray this morning. The GP wants to rule out early onset osteoporosis, but if it comes back ok I might mention this to him. I think I am symmetrical in that I've not noticed anything otherwise, but not sure if its something I'd notice! My ankle started hurting this morning as well. Gah!

Glad you got to see your GP.

Might be worth asking about this or having a one-off appointment with a physio if it doesn't get better.

Not suggesting you would look lopsided!! Difference can be very slight. Most people have something a bit different. For me, I have a slightly bigger left than right foot (few millimetres but notice in trainers). For my friend slight difference on the setting of her hip bones. May not be this but worth considering if other things ruled out.

Hope you get better soon. Smile
