I've been unwell with a cough since November
It got worse about 3 weeks ago and my boss finally made me see GP
Prescribed Clarithromycin 500 bd for 7 days - completed course but no improvement
Seen again now prescribed Doxycycline for 14 days as well a ventolin inhaler and sent for a chest X-ray, signed off work for 5 days
Happy with the treatment but want to know why the directions for taking the doxy states I have to remain upright for 30 mins after taking it? I understand all the other bits of why I have to take it with food but not this bit
Can anyone tell me why?

it is so it falls into your stomach quickly (with gravity) not sits in your food tube for ages (which it would if you were lying down) where it would irritiate it.

snaps that is actually the reccommendation for all oral medicines.
because bits can remain in the esophagus or reflux into there after taking when lying down. this can cause some problems with certain medicines, hence the warning.

First time I've ever seen it and I nursed for 10yrs - clearly never had anyone on DoxyGrin
