Regurgitating 4 yr old.....anyone any ideas?

My DS has always kind of regurgitated, ie, brought up digested (sick) food into his mouth and then swallowed it back down again (sorry of you are having your tea)
He doesn't do it while eating, mainly after exercise or jumping around, which I can sort of understand, but he has done it for years to a greater or lesser extent. I often can smell 'sick' on his breath a few times a day
Is this a sign of anything in particular, is it normal and is there anything I can do about it?

Sounds like reflux.

I would make an appointment with your GP to get it checked as they might be able to offer some medication which will help.

My ds1 (9) suffers from reflux . His is related to anxiety - so caused by excess stomach acid, but afaik, some people just can have a weak sphincter at the top of their stomach which makes them prone to regurgitation.

I was going to say reflux too and advise that you take him to the GP.

Oh thanks for that, It didn't occur to me that that happened to anyone other than babies, but makes sense. Apart from it being a but smelly and unsightly (oh dear I sound like something from downtown abbey!!), does it hurt or have any detrimental effects on the child ???

I would get it checked out as it may indicate a problem with the valve at the top of stomach which is designed to stop that happening.

Thanks, can that have longer term issues or is it something that can be rectified. I just had a google (I know I know!!) and it did seem indicate the possibility of hereditary reflux, I have noticed my dad does it a lot and he does have stomach issues now, although he is in his 70's. But I think he has always done it.
