MMR first shot but DS has a cold - WWYD?

I am pro vaccination but HATE the actual jabs being done so erring on the side of procrastination anyway. That said, DS woke in the night with a cold and is snotty and stuffed up today. No temperature. He is 13 months and due his first MMR shot tomorrow, should I hold off until he's better?

Called the surgery and the receptionist said not to go if he has a temp as they won't vaccinate but it's up to me if I take him if he has a cold.

WWYD?

Also, what is the latest he can have this jab?

Thanks in advance.

I would do it if just a cold, any temp though and I wouldn't. I think they just avoid with temp as it could stop the vaccine being effective, not through fear of it doing any harm. They have a catch up booster at 4 just before school, so you can delay if you want but why would you want to - getting the actual diseases is much worse. Not an easy decision given all the emotive MMR stuff in the past though, we were nervy before doing it.

If it is just a cold, go Smile

mild cold (snuffly, snot faced, still bouncing off walls): take him
heavy cold (fever, or even just very whingey clingy & obviously miserable): delay

Get it over with as a rule.

I would and in fact did when ds had a cold. I hated it a lot more than he did.

Get it over and done with I say. Hope he feels better soon. Mine has a cold and is a grunpy little thing today.
Don't know when the latest time they can have it is sorry.

Thanks all, as long as he's no worse we'll be at the docs tomorrow pm.

Didn't realise the temperature thing was related to the efficacy of the vaccine, thanks bigpigeon that makes me less concerned.

Much appreciated all, this is why I think Mumsnet is great!

Ps. WowOoo hope your little one's cold is better soon. I blame mine on going back to baby group, he ALWAYS seems to pick up colds there. I dread to think what he'll be like at nursery, think we'll keep Kleenex in business. All the more reason to get his jab done I suppose.
