Mum about to start 3 weeks of Radiotherapy...Advice on good creams?

Hi
My mum is just recovering from her last Chemo session (6 months of it) and about to start 3 weeks of radiotherapy everyday. Wondered if anyone knew of any good creams or lotions and potions I could buy her for the area (breast cancer and has had masectomy). Or anything else I can do?
I'm planning to go and stay (3 hours away) give her lifts on some days to give my dad a break - and leave my 9 month DS with grandad!
Also - any advice on how to make my dad a little more patient with her. It's like people think that just because the chemo is over - you're suddenly supposed to be bouncing off the walls!
Also - will her immune system still be v low? (thinking of snotty baby etc)
Thanks

She needs to talk to the radiographers about what creams they advise - normally nothing more than plain aqueous cream is advisable as ingredients can actually increase the skin irritation.

Her immune system won't be affected by the RT.

The main thing about the RT will be tiredness from going to hospital everyday and sitting around - so having puzzle books/mags/nice sweets, anything to pass the time would be great, plus maybe work out some places to pop to on the way back for a coffee and cake after to make it less like just a traipse.

As your mum has had a mastectomy, her skin will probably get quite sore, so a silk camisole or other very soft layer would be great

I think her immune system is going to still be low from the chemo, yes. But I wouldn't worry too much about the baby unless he is very poorly in himself, my oncologist said most infections come from your own skin etc, not other people. And the lift she will get from seeing him is likely to be positive.

On the creams front - what CMOT said, definitely. She's the expert on rads, for sure as it's her field. Aqueous is about all that's permitted. And you Mum needs to start with it for a few days before the rads, for optimum benefit.
On making her DH more sympathetic - that's hard. From experience I can tell you that rads make you feel pretty glum, and recovering energy post chemo takes a good six months, if not more. Sorry.

I'm on the tamoxifen thread in general Health and it is a support thread primarily for people who have had BC though anyone is very welcome. You (or she) could join us for moral support? Good luck to you all.

Thank you both for your advice. Very helpful. Am definately going to try to get her to join or at least read some of the threads.

DH was given tubes of aqueous cream to use by the radiographers, so I would presume your mum might receive the same. Wishing her lots of luck.
