Teeth grinding

DD has 4 teeth, all front ones and constantly grinds them together. Should I stop her? It's pretty gross and am really worried she'll cause damage.

Personally I would see a cranio-sacral therapist to get it sorted out. There have been lots of recent threads on cranio-sacral therapy

Not sure it's that drastic, it's only a habit she's developed I think. Just wondered if anyone else had experienced it?

How old is she? Both my kids die it for a while, and then stopped. I do it too when I'm stressed. Don't think it's anything to worry about.

my ds does this too... he is 11 months! i think they just do it because the teeth feel weird!

MrsBigD · 18/01/2006 21:26

ds did that too once he had 2 teeth top and 2 teeth bottom... I think it's just because there's something new in his mouth and he was experimenting. Also I think he loved to see me cringe

nooka · 18/01/2006 21:47

My dd still does it (although mostly in her sleep) she is five! But her teeth don't seem affected at all.

pumpkin7 · 18/01/2006 22:20

My Ds2 used to do it when he first got teeth but now my ds1 has started doing it and hes 8. It is so annoying but I think its developed into a habit as he doesnt always know hes doing it. His teeth are fine though he had check up last week.

sansouci · 18/01/2006 22:26

My dd does it too, every night. she also talks, moans, shouts & cries in her sleep. Does this mean she is very stressed? Angry? or anything else I could worry about?

sansouci · 18/01/2006 22:27

she's 5.5, btw

pumpkin7 · 18/01/2006 22:41

I wouldnt worry about your dd talking etc in her sleep unless you know of something that could be bothering her ie school. Both my boys talk, moan etc in their sleep but most of the time theres nothing worrying them its just something they do. I talk in my sleep too and have often woke up laughing or crying because of something i've dreamt. I dont know why I do it but I know its not anything to worry about.

If you are worried try to listen to what she is saying in her sleep and gently question her next day but I expect she is just dreaming

meggmoo · 18/01/2006 22:44

Ewwwwwwwww my ds did that, it grossed me out so much I would almost drop him

He stopped after a few weeks thankfully, I think he was just wearing them in!

Janh · 18/01/2006 22:51

It's called bruxism and it's completely normal. See here

Lots of us still grind!

sansouci · 20/01/2006 10:34

Thanks JanH. That's a relief.

kreamkrackers · 20/01/2006 11:38

my dd does this when more teeth are coming through. i told her to stop it (along with putting her fingure up her nose) but she did it all the more. ignore it as much as possible, try sticking some music on to drown out the noise. i was told nearly every child does this and not to worry but dp worries about it.

Sadeyedladyofthelowlands · 21/01/2006 22:58

It's so gross I feel like hurling. If I put my finger in her mouth to stop her she bites so hard I have to check I've still got a finger...
Glad she's not the only one tho, thanks!!!

My dd [5]does it in her sleep, sometimes more than others her front teeth show visible signs that she does it. They are a little chipped.
