Cubital tunnel syndrome

For the past 3 weeks I have suffered from ins and needles and know full numbness in my little finger and half of my ring finger together with the side of my hand. After searching the internet (bad I know Grin) I found that I was displaying all the symptoms of Cubital tunnel syndrome.

Went to see my GP yesterday and he has diagnosed carpal tunnel and referred my to have a hand splint.

From what I have read, the 2 different syndromes affect different fingers/side of the hand and the treatment is very different from each other (i.e. cubital descends from a nerve in the elbow, whilst carpal descends from a nerve in the wrist.

Should i go back to the GP or bring it up when I attend the appointment for hand splint?

I have also been reffered for splins for Carpal Tunnel but interested in this as my pain seems to be from elbows rather than wrists

Hope you get some advice and will be watching with interest

It certainly sounds like you have ulnar nerve compression, rather than medial, and wrist splints won't help. Is the appointment with a physio ? They'd be able to show you some exercises to help
Sleeping with your elbow straight will help - wrap a towel round to stop you bending it

cricketballs - it probably won't come to this but if you do have cubital tunnel syndrome and need to have the nerve decompressed surgically, I have had it done and can tell you that the surgery is very brief, you are out in about an hour, and the relief is immediate. Its a GA job, but it is really nothing to worry about.

just a quick update - I was given a splint to wear at night and intermittently during the day. It hasn't worked (shock horror Grin) and after going back to the GP I have now been referred for a surgical consult

Hope you get an appt quickly !

Carpal Tunnel is little/rign finger, as you said. I have it, and mum, mums mum etc. Nan had hers operated on, mum has splints at night, and I have splints intermittently (makes it worse though.. but not flared up recently to go to doc).

Best of luck

shameless bump - but I am booked in for surgery in a couple of weeks and was curious to know other's experiences - mainly how long before you can drive again? The cubital is my left hand so I only have to operate gears/handbrake but need to plan out life!

Sorry to wake up a zombie thread, but cubital tunnel syndrome was one of the diagnoses Dr. Google showed me when I consulted with him.

@cricketballs, curious to know how the surgery went.

I have recently (just this week) started with pain in my bicep, tricep, elbow, forearm and have tingling and painful little finger and ring fingers.

The symptoms seem to fit cubital and radial tunnel syndrome. 😣

@WTFIsAGleepglorp did you find out what you had?

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 27/11/2021 12:15

No one diagnosed anything.

I was given physiotherapy exercises and the pain subsided within a year.

REMINDER THIS IS A ZOMBIE THREAD FROM OVER THREE YEARS AGO

@WTFIsAGleepglorp thank you! What exercises if you don’t mind me asking? My drs are being a pain!
