Anyone consulted a homeopath for morning sickness?

I know it's a controversial therapy, but I would do anything to feel better. There is a properly registered qualified homeopath in my town - the consultation would be £60, the £40 for a follow up. I've never consulted an alternative therapist before.

Worth it, or a waste of money? Already taking ginger capsules from the health food shop, and about to go and buy some of t one acupressure wrist bands, but wondered if anyone had found homeopathy helpful for this or similar conditions?

Waste of money. Homeopathy has never been proved to work, and there have been very long and angry exchanges here on the topic!

If you want to try something that might work, try acupuncture.

I had morning sickness for 14 weeks with both DCs- I found that eating little and often helped- even during the night.

Abirdinthehand · 18/01/2012 17:07

I know it does not work in a physical way, but to be honest if the consultation and sugar pills are enough of a placebo to make me feel better I don't care! Have tried all the normal advice of eating a dry cracker etc. this is my 3rd dc and it has been worse with each pregnancy, I am finding it so debilitating.

acupuncture totally cured me of my sickness. i went every week from week 24. at first the sickness would only dissipate for a day or two, but apparently the acupressure builds up in you and your tolerance becomes greater (or something like that) at the end i was only going once per fortnight, and the sickness would be cured apart from the last day or two before my next appointment. Totally recommended by me :)

good luck, i know how awful it is.

If you send me a tenner I'll send you some water which will cure your morning sickness - honest. Smile

thanks for the acupuncture reccomendations. I feel a bit squeamish about it, but I will look into it and see how much it would cost.

Gin, kind offer but not that helpful really! I literally am disabled by it. I have been staggering from sofa to bed and back for 3 weeks. My 4 year old has missed preschool for a week because i am too ill to get him there, and I am living on cherios and ribena - the only things i can stomach. My kids get cereal for lunch as well because if i open the fridge or prepare food, i vomit - it smells rotten, although dh and my mum cant smell anything!

I got some ginger capsules today, and also accupressure wrist bands hich aparently work for some people.Of course, no way of telling if I would have got better anyway without them, but i'm feeling so rough anything is worth a try!

naughty Alan- this is not the place to advertise.

another recommendation for acupuncture- it did not cure me but made me able to function.

Also go and see your GP, there is medication you can take to help although IMHO some gps are not particularly sympathetic towards morning sickness/hyperemesis.

KateWinstanleyAcupuncture · 26/01/2012 10:58

Yes do try it - morning sickness is horrible. Have you tried those wrist bands? They actually stimulate an acupuncture point which is great for relieving nausea. Alternatively google 'Pericardium 6' (the name of the point) and press on it with your thumb for a few minutes as and when needed.

Good luck!

TitWillow · 26/01/2012 11:25

Sounds like you have hyperemesis, get thee to a GP where they can give you medication that actually works, for free. Better than spending £100 Shock on sugar pills.

A GP will also check if you are dehydrated, IME, once the vomiting started, the resulting dehydration made me feel even worse, and it took a day or two on a drip to sort it out.

It's worth trying a few alternatives, morning sickness can be so debilitating.

Maybe go on to the Complementary Therapists Association (www.ctha.com/) & see who is in your area?

...& it will be considerably cheaper than £100...& the G.P is only 'free' at the point of use, it costs the taxpayer something just over £200 for your 7-minute consultation (not including prescription)
