Sorry, not at all a pleasant topic for lunchtime I know ! My Dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer last week and went to the hospital this morning for his first appointment with the surgeon who will be operating. I'm feeling very nervous & a bit sick waiting to hear how he got on.
From what he said it sounds as if they have caught it pretty early but please post some happy ending stories to distract me from this horrible waiting and the scene of chaos caused by the builders downstairs.

Nan and Aunt have both had bowel cancer and survived.

Dh's cousin had adult leukemia and is now fine.

I've had 2 friends survive breast cancer, and one get through throat cancer.

I know more people who have recovered fully from various forms of cancer, than have not, and those who haven't have had other things stacked against them (age and lifestyle)

Modern medicine is pretty damned wonderful in my opinion!

Good wishes to your Dad btw.

Lalaa - pleased to har that you are not finding cheo as all-encompasingly gruelling as you feared.

Kittypickle - as I have previously told Lalaa - my SIL was diagnosed with agressive breast cancer that had got into her lymph nodes, nearly 5 years ago. She completed the Moonwalk this summer, and is doing really well....all check-ups have been clear thus far....

Thank you all so much for posting these, they are great to read If anyone else has anything else anymore please add them. I think it would be good for this to be in the archives for people to find if they or a family member/friend get a diagnosis of cancer.

Lalaa, I am really pleased to hear your chemo isn't as bad as you thought it would be and have my fingers well and truly crossed for you. Thank you for your kind offer which I will take you up on if he does need something further.

I have another postive story to add. My Nan had breast cancer in her early 60s which came back after a couple of years and she had a further op and radiotherapy. She died peacefully in her sleep aged 84.

My mum had bowel cancer in 1993. Had surgery and chemotherapy and it has not returned to this day.
