Had decided today was my quit day but true to form I lit up first thing this morning, and so far today have smoked about 8 cigarettes, so enough is enough! I have smoked my last cigarette

Well done obrigada! I really hope you manage it. Mornings are so hard, aren't they?

I am pregnant Blush and still struggling. I managed to quit for three whole weeks, and then stupidly started again. No idea what triggered it, I just lit up and that was me again. Today was supposed to be my day again, but I caved. I think if you feel determined and strong, then it's half the battle. I will keep trying again until I get that Eureka moment again.

FWIW, I found the Nicorette 16hr patches, combined with mini lozenges very helpful.

Sparklingbrook · 16/01/2012 12:09

I don't smoke so good luck to both of you. I want to lose weight, and today is as good a day as any to start. Grin
Hope you don't get a hard time on here because of your pregnancy BamBam but really do try.

BamBam21 · 16/01/2012 12:16

Thanks sparkling. Sometimes I think somebody giving me a huge boot up the backside is what I need, but actually it just makes you feel worse and want to smoke even more.Sad

Good luck with the weight loss! Are you aiming to lose much, or is it just a couple of mince pies off the hips?Grin

Sparklingbrook · 16/01/2012 12:19

About two stone that's been hanging around for a while BamBam. Smile I don't see my compulsion to eat what I shouldn't as any different to compulsion to smoke really.
I think the fact you did do 3 weeks before is brilliant, so maybe today could be the day?

BamBam21 · 16/01/2012 12:32

I think that's true sparkling. My MIL is very sniffy about smoking and can't see why people can't quit, but she is utterly obsessive about what she eats, what she weighs etc. She even destroyed a lot of DP's childhood photos because she thought she looked fat in them. I think they are all addictions/compulsions in their own way.

I was so proud of myself for the 3 weeks before. I want to be strong again. My plan is to perhaps wear a patch overnight (I know you're not supposed to, but it has to be better than smoking) and that might take the morning cravings away a wee bit. I'm generally fine once DS is at school and I have some space. I will then just have to be strong for when the evening cravings hit.

Sparklingbrook · 16/01/2012 12:36

Yes, started with good intentions today BamBam. Cereal and yoghurt at breakfast -brilliant. Then two unnecessary slices of toast after the school run, and four slices of buttered malt loaf with a coffee at eleven. Hmm

BamBam21 · 16/01/2012 12:41

Hmm, do you think possibly that, like so many cigs that I smoke, you just eat something to fill in the time? I know that I do that. I made myself drink endless glasses of water until the urge passed, and it helped quite a bit. Also, going on MN or reading a magazine as a distraction tactic.

Am feeling furious with myself for being full of great advice that I can't seem to actually take myself!Confused

Sparklingbrook · 16/01/2012 12:44

Probably-as a reward. The toast was congratulating myself on getting the boys up, ready and to school. The malt loaf was because I always have a coffee mid-morning. But just a coffee would be more sensible. Grin It's habit some of it. I never have a hot drink without something to eat with it. Blush

obrigada How's it going?

BamBam21 · 16/01/2012 12:59

Maybe the key for all of us is to shake up our routines and try to break some of our habits e.g coffee and toast/fag, bored so eat KitKat/have fag! I quite often do all of the above!!BlushGrin

Hope all is going well obrigada.Smile

picnicbasketcase · 16/01/2012 13:03

I stopped smoking eight months ago. If you are ready to stop, you will. If you keep thinking that you're 'missing out' on something, you will crumble. Think of it as stopping and not 'giving up'. Good luck to you.

BamBam21 · 16/01/2012 13:06

That's very true picnic. It's so much about your mindset.

Well done to you on 8 months. That's a real achievement!WineSmile

obrigada · 16/01/2012 14:11

Hi all, just checking in! So far, so good but definitely not easy. I do agree it would be a good idea to alter my routine but not easy when you work full-time!

BamBam21 · 16/01/2012 14:35

Glad you are hanging in there obrigada! It's never easy, but you sound really determined. Were you a heavy smoker?

I hope that tomorrow I will be smoke free again. I have the HV coming on Weds morning, so I want me and the flat to be fresh!

Sparklingbrook · 16/01/2012 21:42

Hello! Well the pizza I had for tea was my last for a while. Tomorrow is the day.Grin

BamBam21 · 17/01/2012 09:16

Morning all! How are you all getting on?

Well, I just got my last packet of cigs. I had some left over from last night, and I just can't throw them away.Blush I then slept in this morning and had a mad rush to get DS to school on time (managed it by a whisker!!Grin). So, no more excuses. Once these are gone then I am going to try really hard.

QuintessentiallyShallow · 17/01/2012 09:19

BamBam - why smoke them, why not just snap them in two?

BamBam21 · 17/01/2012 10:29

That would take a feat of willpower that I just can't manage quint. You are, of course, quite right though.

QuintessentiallyShallow · 17/01/2012 11:37

Well, lets hope you have enough will power to not go and buy another pack!

Good Luck!

BamBam21 · 17/01/2012 11:42

Thanks quint. I actually haven't smoked much today at all. Just don't really feel like it.
