hi dd 16 months old had whits coating on tongue, it resembles a tongue just after they have eaten a yoghurt, but thicker...

she is not ill, or complaining in any kind of way.
she has just got over a little bit of teething pain, a few days of calpol and tlc soon sorted that out.

she doesnt really say alot at the moment just rammle and hi-ya to everyone and there dog, so cant say if she sounds hoarse with soar throat.

any ideas???

Thrush? Check with your chemist and they can give you Nystan for it.

melsy · 17/01/2006 11:21

It may be thrush , dd had it at a few months old. They prescribe nystan drops to go on the tongue. If breast feeding theres something you can get to go on the nipples , violet something?

It sounds like thrush. Treatable with drops. It wouls also be worth giving her pro-biotics and cutting down on sugar and yeast for a bit. (Fungal infections thrive on these things).

It can be quite sore so it's worth getting it sorted asap.

HTH.

Spidermama · 17/01/2006 11:23

Are you bf-ing? If so you need to treat your nipples too. Otherwise you'll pass it two and fro.

lucykatie · 17/01/2006 11:24

thought about thrush but would she not be a little off with it....also how does she get thrush.

cant say she has loads of sweet things, plenty of yoghurts though.

could be oral thrush

starlover · 17/01/2006 11:27

sorry was busy googling and ebveryone else got in firs!

saw this on a site though:
WHITE thickened coating espec. if greasy /slimy : Congestion. Excessive catarrh/mucus. Try Homeopathic remedy Kali. Bich. 30c once or twice daily for up to 3 weeks.
White FURRING of tongue- when there is less saliva, e.g. in fever, colds, dry mouth syndrome, -gentle brushing will help to clear. FURRING is debris. DEHYDRATION.

Spidermama · 17/01/2006 11:27

She wouldn't be 'off' with thrush. You get it when the balance of bacteria is disturbed in the body. It could be because her immune system was a bit down, or if she's had anti biotics.

starlover · 17/01/2006 11:28

lucykatie... yoghurt has loads of sugar in it! unless you're giving her plain natural yoghurt?

Spidermama · 17/01/2006 11:28

tongue thrush picture.

hewlettsdaughter · 17/01/2006 11:29

have a look here

lucykatie · 17/01/2006 11:29

she has had a mother of all runny noses for ages....and i mean snot like i have never seen before....SORRY!!!!!

as you can imagine her nose gets in a right mess through the night, could this be a sign of congestion.

yes ske looks exactly like the babys tongue on that picture, and she has been saying no to her dummy over the past few days.

so do i have too see gp or can i go to chemist and get over the counter stuff.

hewlettsdaughter · 17/01/2006 11:34

We saw the GP - although I guess you could try asking the pharmacist first.

starlover · 17/01/2006 11:35

you'll need to go to your gp to get the stuff to put in her mouth i think.
and you'll get it on prescription, so better than paying for it!

lucykatie · 17/01/2006 11:36

LK - it sound like thrush. Sorry, haven't read rest of thread, just your 1st post, do you breastfeed ? If so, you will need to treat your nipples as well due to cross-infection.

There was a thread on this recently and several of us who have suffered from this, provided info. based on research that says DAKTARIN ORAL GEL is a much better and quicker solution to oral thrush. Nystan is usually prescribed by GP's but in my experience and according to research it is not a very good remedy.

You can buy Daktarin oral gel at most large chemists. If you need any further info. please let me know and I will be happy to provide it.

Good luck !
